didn't even notice that HDD was 2.5 inch. definitely go with 3.5 inch like he said.
I haven't tried surround gaming, but I find that my current 24 inch 1080 monitor is enough real estate for gaming at a normal distance. When I received my 27 inch 1440 monitor I remember thinking, wow this is pretty big. Although I am still making the transition to 1440 (long story), I just can't see myself really enjoying a triple monitor setup THAT much. Also when buying triple monitors I think it is best to get ones with super thin bezels. Hell, some people take off the bezels all together. I'll let blue and coyote weigh in on it as they have more experience with it.
