How can you determine the performance bottleneck on your pc?

If you have plenty of ram it would come down to the processor or the video card right? I was thinking of upgrading my graphics card (a geforce gt440 1gb) but I only have a 2.66ghz xeon quad core processor. Also 8gb ram, ssd hd, etc. It plays the latest games just fine (I think I was running Crysis 3 on medium setting, but with either low or no AA) but I wanted to upgrade nonetheless. I know my rig can handle a pretty serious graphics card (750W p. supply, etc) but how do you figure out if additional GPU performance will be effectively utilized?

Yeah its time to upgrade that gpu.
Treat yourself to a nice one and revel in the glory.
Everything else looks fine honestly. Slap your fav game on your ssd and get a new gpu and you will be in gaming heaven

I've got a 670 that I might be getting rid of in the next week when my 7970 comes in.

For that budget I'd recommend taking a look at Radeon 7870 "xt" or "Tahiti le" editions.
if your motherboard can support another 8gb of system ram I'd consider that too, for $50. altho 8gb is sufficient...just that could be your next upgrade down the line.

I can post a shtt ton of programs such as gpuview tonight.
FYI though u will always have a bottleneck but it is most likely your gpu in any case.. Unless you have 3+ titans.
