In November, when Mike Florio surveyed NFL talent evaluators about former LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, the general consensus was that Mathieu was a fourth-round draft pick

Mike Mayock reported on NFL Network on Tuesday that there was a buzz coming out of the Combine that Mathieu impressed NFL teams, both with his faster-than-expected 40-yard dash and with his forthright answers to the tough questions teams were asking about how he allowed marijuana to derail his college career. But there’s only so much a player can do in February to change NFL teams’ opinions about him.

“I don’t think he’s going to go in the first two rounds, that’s my gut, and from talking to teams, it’s kind of a third or fourth-round pick. That’s what I’m hearing,” Mayock said of Mathieu.

If he goes in the 3rd, we should consider that a minor modern day miracle.

I could maybe see him sneaking into the late second round based on potential. However I think 3rd or 4th is very reasonable considering his history.

Kiper said practically the same thing on ESPN this morning: best case third, worst case fourth.

And if Tebow and Ridley taught us anything, all it takes is one team and he could end up in the second round as well

Wait a second, I thought Mathieu was dropping because his bench sucked?

CBs don't need to be able to bench 225 lbs

Someone will get a steal in 4th round for his ballhawking skills.
He will not be an elite cover corner lining up against the top WR's but will thrive in that nickel/dime roll.

his knowledge of the game will increase his stock once he gets familiar with the system...i suspect he'll be a pro bowler within 3years of his initial start

I'm confident he won't slip past the third round.

Most believed before the weed and arrest TM7 would be a 2nd-3rd round pick so he hasn't lost much ground if he gets drafted in 3rd or 4th

Not on defense...no chance.
Maybe special teams. He will not be a starting CB in the pro's IMO. Nicle/dime guy with a chance to shine in special teams.

I could see this, but would think it would have to be some teams' 3rd pick.

Teams that have 3 picks in the first 2 rounds:

San Fran
Minnesota
St. Louis
Miami

Being drafted at all is a huge deal for any college player. Most are not drafted to the NFL. This is no less positive than his testing while at LSU.

I'm sure people said the same thing about him being a heisman candidate and All American when he was a 3 star coming out of high school. Not saying he will be a pro bowler but I'm not ruling anything out with this guy
