George R. R. Martin admits he needs to write faster

But as Martin told Mashable on the red carpet, he understands the widespread pressure to increase his writing speed. He also revealed that the problem of online trolls who unkindly remind him of that fact is getting worse. The main reason to hurry on those last two books of the series? The show, now entering the realm of the series' third book, is catching up with him. "I can't see the locomotive yet, but I hear the tracks vibrating," the Thrones supremo said, employing one of the most high-tech metaphor in his mostly medieval arsenal.

For fans, the wait between those books was agonizing; a minority started trolling Martin's blog with nasty comments about his age and potential ill-health. A widely-read New Yorker article investigated this phenomenon, unusual in the literary world.

If he died before either of the last two books came out, I don't know what I'd do.

The series would be finished on HBO.

He is going to die before he's done that's almost inevitable. Especially bc i think he's gonna have to expand to 8 books, there's no way he wraps this up in two more. At the end of book 5 he was still adding and expanding storylines. This whole thing has Wheel of Time written all over it, except instead of a shitty fill in author to finish the series, Martin is going to write notes and let HBO finish it via television

going to be a ratings shite fest

I have a bad feeling that fat bastard is going to screw us on an ending.

No matter what ending he chooses, people are going to look at it as getting screwed. While everything has to end, the story he has created has been so amazing, the reality of it ending, no matter how fantastic or anticlimactic it is, will be a letdown.

I think most people wouldn't have a problem with the time lapse if he wasn't adding more shite to his plate to delay it. Additional Dunk and Egg stories (which I love but still), additional TV projects, etc.

Woah woah, Brandon Sanderson is not a shitty fill in, you shut your dirty whore mouth.

I'm sure he has notes on where the books are going and how they end. The writer of the Wheel of Time series died before they were complete and was finished by another writer using the notes of the original writer. My ex really enjoyed those books and believes that the quality actually improved for the books written by the new writer.

This thread is about how an author will get his series to the finish line. Obviously there will be talk of how to get the characters from where they are now to the end of the series.
Fair game, IMHO.

Nope. The concern over whether the show catches up to him is not fair game for spoilers. It's not a question of how. If it was, I wouldn't have clicked on it. Regardless, 2 people have had the end of the book spoiled so I guess a SPOILER ALERT isn't too much to ask for

IDGAF about the books, but that's bullshite. A simple spoiler in the first sentence would save everyone the pain.

Yup, so basically I wasted my fricking time

bullshite you fricking a-hole. No "spoilers" tag means you shouldn't expect spoilers.

The guy should have labeled his spoiler, but did that one spoiler really make you think you wasted your time reading the books?
