I admire your desire to learn more, but if you really don't care about future employment with this field or anything of the sort, why not try another more hands-on avenue? Maybe volunteer with some historical foundation or something with veterans.

I feel as if I learned jack shite about finance after studying and getting my bachelor's, and I am sure I could've learned more for a lot less money in other ways.

I think I will just pay for it out of pocket. Get the degree and use it as my sig to point out how I have a worthless degree but it didnt hurt me financially.

Afterwards I will burn all books and proceed to call myself the Grand PooBah of Knowledge and bestow Masters degrees on those who kneel before me.

well, if it's your passion, go for it....just understand the true reason of why you're doing it....

i have to admit, one of these day's i'd like to do a master's in history and do a thesis on what actually went down with the Louisiana National Guard during Katrina...

my other topic would have a better fit on the political board and a lot of academics wouldn't touch it with a fifty foot pole....

+100000 in my book. Ill check out the sites, I see they offer free lectures and what not. But like I said in the OP, family has money so I may go through with the online courses.

Thanks to those that were helpful and not those who advocated I burn money in bonfires and the like.

Check out this LINK.

It's the Society for Military History's webpage that lists every significant MA & PhD granting military history institution.

And screw the haters. I'm at KU right now getting my MA/PhD in military history and I love it.

If it has no effect on your job why not just study on your own? Sounds like you want the piece of paper more than the knowledge.
