I finally got my drive going straight but am only hitting it to the 175 mark. Which is depressing because my brother got his first set of clubs last week and is destroying me in every aspect of golf.

Also all my irons are landing at 125. Absolutely no difference between the 4-7 but the 8/9 are doing their job.

Any tips on improvement in distance or do I just need to work on getting my hips around faster?

I have clearly noticed a major improvement in my drive accuracy and distance when I just focus on contact and don't try to crush it.

Or is it just time for another lesson with beaverpro?

Power is generated by a smooth, mechanically sound swing. I don't swing the club extremely hard and I hit the ball a long way. If you're an old man and make one those half swing deals, then I would imagine you aren't going to hit the ball 200+ very often if at all

Dude, there used to be a guy in our club that had your exact problem. Unfortunatly for him they kicked him out when they found out he was gay.

When I started playing I tried to mimic Ernie Els when swinging the club. Record your swing on a regular basis and try to make small, incremental changes rather than attempting to do a complete overhaul of your swing

Distance is all about swing speed and contact. The faster you swing the club (provided you make good contact) the farther the ball will go. I always have my students who are looking to hit the ball farther practice swinging the club holding the head instead of the grip. And I have them swing it as fast as possible. Don't swing harder... Swing faster.

Oh and stop being such a fig

From what you are saying it sounds like you are swinging so slow and soft b/c you are trying to guide the ball down the middle. Grip it and rip it bro(or is it bruh?)!

Its gonna take a lot longer than 2 months to get your drives long and straight. There are most likely several reasons that your balls are all going straight (which I doubt they are) and short. You could not be taking the club back far enough, not using your hips, improper weight transfer, no lag in your swing, etc.

Buy some books and watch some tutorials. Once you learn the proper way to grip, stand, address, etc., you can figure out where you are screwing up and make corrections.

Here is a good place to start.

When swinging a golf club as others have said its all about the speed the club head hits the ball. That is why as you club up the clubs get longer. It makes the club head travel a great distance while you make the same swinging motion resulting in a fast club head speed. The fact all your irons are going the same distance make me believe you are swing a normal swing with the lower irons, but holding back with the higher irons since they are "harder" to hit.

Then also there is a point in everyone's swing where we beginning swinging too hard and we start shanking balls left and right. This is caused because in the extra energy we exert speeding up the club head, we lose control of the club head. Keep swinging gradually faster/harder until you notice you lose control of the club head. That is the easiest way to make the ball go further.
