You always see previews of movies where the movie's biggest selling point was that someone on the creative team was once involved in a film that was actually good.

So which one do you look for? Do you think it's important if the director has done good work before or would you rather see a movie where the writers have a proven track record?

I personally don't put much stock in these types of things. I feel that a movie is such a collaborative effort that if one part of the team fricks up then the movie is probably shite.

ETA: Bonus point question - If someone can tell me exactly what "from the creators of..." actually means then they will receive a billion MTV Board points. Chicken will credit your account.

This. At least writers give you an idea of whether it will have shite dialog or not but IMO, the writers need two credits to their name before I believe in them.

Directors is usually the best gauge since they have control over the feel of the movie. Even the same director is starting to mean less and less since they take on so many projects now. There are a few directors I will check out blindly.

This. If it's a Scorsese or Nolan film, I know it's going to be great. If the screenplay is written by Charlie Kaufman, I know it's going to be a unique, well-written film. The talent is much more important than the producers.

Writers and Directors mean the most. And Directors are the more important half of those two.

I'm going to guess "from the creators of" means the film studio that made the movie. For example, from the creators of Toy Story comes Finding Nemo. Pixar would be considered the creators.

Writer and director mean the most to me. Director's the only one that would sway me to see something though.

Depends on what you liked about the first movie.

If it had really awesome special effects, you want the same producers.

If it was a great storyline, you want the same writers.

Writer. Even a great director can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
