I am glad everyone knows best but when do you think a first time head coach, and this is his first head coaching job, will turn into a NBA Finals coach? Think about that before defending the man.
Wait, what? You realize every coach was once young and had a first coaching job, right?

And which ones did it within their first five years or with their first team? It isn't a pretty stat if you look it up. Not too many coaches make it in the NBA and Monty might be good one day and somewhere but just not in New orleans.

But has any of those been giving the title of a "great young coach" without proving anything? Damn, I said I wasn't gonna post in this thread.

That's an interesting subject. I'd make the argument that they're very good coaches to be as young as they are and manage the talent that they have.

No link needed. Haven't you read any of these threads? Didn't you watch last years lottery? Michael Wilbon and Jalen Rose all on Monty's nutz. Don't you watch the Hornets games on tv with the commercials quoting, uh who is it, Doug Collins, Kevin Durant, and another person who I forget, saying how great of a coach Monty is?

OK so he might not be the coach to lead us to a championship, but why does that mean he can't be a coach during our rebuilding process?

Someone should list hall of fame coaches who didn't win a championship in their first five years.

There is some real stupidity in this thread. Just shows some hornets fans have zero clue on the ways of the NBA Monty is going no where. Not anytime soon

Let's just say Monty did deserve to be fired and you had a suitable replacement. Is Benson really going to eat the $3 - $5 million Monty is still owed or would some of that come out of Demps' operating budget and we lose scouting and medical resources, or the ability to buy draft picks, or worse yet are forced to sell draft picks? Sports fans often get a "Anything else has to be better" mentality and that just isn't always true. Sometimes you can make things worse. And sometimes the problem is not the coach but the fan expectations. I started a thread a few months back saying it was obvious development was the primary goal this season, so just using that as your measuring stick, is anyone disappointed in the progress of the young players? I know many disagree with Davis not playing in the 4th, but is anyone actually disappointed in the progress Davis has made as a player? I want to see Davis and Anderson play together as much as anyone, but is it possible Monty knows what he's doing more than we do?
quote:
But Hornets Coach Monty Williams, ordinarily circumspect in his public evaluations of players, seems to be becoming a little more descriptive and expansive when discussing Davis' future and what kind of progress Davis has made in his rookie season. "I liken it to LaMarcus (Aldridge, Portland's All-Star power forward); I had LaMarcus his rookie year and I also had Greg Oden," Williams said. "I liken it to LaMarcus. We brought him along at a slower rate because he didn't have the confidence that you saw in his smile. It was a bit different than it was on the floor. "We just allowed him to come along the same way. I can see some of the same progress. It was a big deal (Sunday) night when Anthony outran LaMarcus for a layup. I was like, 'That's funny.' That's what we tried to get LaMarcus to do because he was so weak his rookie season we told him he had to outrun people so he wouldn't get hit."

Motherfricking this. It annoys the hell out of me to hear fans say "Team XYZ needs to get rid of player/coach A", without realizing that in order for it to make sense to get rid of that player or coach, you would have to replace him with someone better; if not, it's just a waste and you're downgrading. Then, rarely ever do the same fans give a reasonable, and plausible replacement for that player/coach they want to get rid of, they just want to get rid of that guy.
