While finding the Higgs boson won't tell us everything we need to know about how the universe works, it will fill in a huge hole in the Standard Model that has existed for more than 50 years, according to experts.

"The Higgs boson is the last missing piece of our current understanding of the most fundamental nature of the universe," Martin Archer, a physicist at Imperial College in London, told CNN.

"Only now with the LHC [Large Hadron Collider] are we able to really tick that box off and say 'This is how the universe works, or at least we think it does'."

"It's not the be all and end all -- but in terms of what can we say practically about the world and how the world is, it actually tells us a lot."

Prove it

The very nature of faith, as you well know, is such that proof is not required. You don't believe, fine. I do, also fine. You put all of your 'faith' in science which has been 'proven' WRONG so many times it is laughable. The things that man believed science had 'proven' but later discovered were erroneous would shut this board down if we tried to list them.

Bring me the bones of Jesus. Then maybe I'll listen when people "theorize" about how mankind came to be.

You make a claim. You have to have proof.

We've gone down this road before.

YOU also make claims but don't offer 'proof'.

Indeed we have and neither of us changes our minds....yet.

i understand how science works perfectly. Scientists say something like this:
quote:

While finding the Higgs boson won't tell us everything we need to know about how the universe works, it will fill in a huge hole in the Standard Model that has existed for more than 50 years, according to experts.

"The Higgs boson is the last missing piece of our current understanding of the most fundamental nature of the universe," Martin Archer, a physicist at Imperial College in London, told CNN.

"Only now with the LHC [Large Hadron Collider] are we able to really tick that box off and say 'This is how the universe works, or at least we think it does'."

"It's not the be all and end all -- but in terms of what can we say practically about the world and how the world is, it actually tells us a lot."

and then some moron, like you, comes in here saying it proves God isn't real.

What claim have I made?

Please tell me. This should be good.

Well it's certainly more than "god did it"

I think I have an idea.

I do not make fun of, castigate scientists or insult them as you do those who have faith.

Surely you can admit that 'science' has been wrong many, many times.

Science is self correcting.

Science says "hey we think it went like this, but lets run some tests"

Faith says "it went like this."

when the scientists doing the actual research don't give a definitive answer, it makes you a moron for assuming the definitive. Regardless of your opinion, you sound every bit as idiotic saying "this proves God doesn't exist" as you think Christians sound when they say, "I believe in God."

What are they going to do with it once they find/isolate it?

no, faith says, "I believe it went like this." Which is almost word for word what scientists say in a hypothesis.

Actually faith is more than just faith in God. We also have faith that the scriptures are true, and for good reason. Science doesn't exactly refute the scriptures so I'd say we have just as much ground to stand on as those who "think" they will be able to understand the world a little better with this god particle

Nah, they're not that far apart. I'd say, science says, "We believe, based on evidence and reason, that it went like this." Religion says, "I believe, by faith alone, that it went like this." JMO

This is more accurate for my views.

quote:

Science is self correcting.

You are like Fonzie when it comes to using the word 'wrong'. When science discovers something that disproves what they thought was true it is 'self correcting'...You sound like you work for the government, Doc. "We didn't have a 'lay-off', it was down-sizing...
