I don't see anything wrong with the article. It is a baseball problem.

more than half of the HBCU schools that competed in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference had more white players than African-Americans in 2012. Scholarship white baseball players in the MEAC outnumbered black players 74-59

They used the MEAC, I talked about the SWAC. But the point is the same. I didn't take any issue with the article.

The over/under on the percentage of posters in this thread that actually read the whole article is set at 10%. I'm putting my money on the under. Nothing wrong with that article.

I really appreciate the dig CPM tossed in there about schollies. Well played, coach.

This kind of whining by quota-counters is nothing new. I remember reading another hack in the Daily Reveille complaining about the lack of any black players on the '93 baseball team. Never mind that team won the nat'l title. Satisfying the race-obsessed p.c. types matters more than achieving success to these idiots.

Except the entire article is based on race which is wrong from the beginning. Once again, write an article on the lack of white football and basketball players and see how well it's taken.

Also not "wrong" according to you.

Wasn't it that he didn't get along with Mainieri and, at the time, he didn't think Spencer Ware, his HS teammate, was going to make it so he bailed?

No he made it here for the fall but got kicked off.

Works any way you slice it. Hey, look at me, I can be a journalist.

I hate people who are racist

I thought the article was a very fair description of the current state of college baseball when it comes to black players.

It certainly was not critical of LSU.

It praised Mainieri's record for recruiting black players, even to the point of explaining we lost two black players from this year's team for valid reasons.

Mainieri's comments about the NCAA's draconian scholarship restrictions for baseball is the same complaint Skip Bertman voiced for years regarding the unintended consequence of discouraging kids from poor, black families from pursuing a sport where they can not expect to have a full scholly like they can for football and basketball.

I noticed this past weekend when the teams lined up for the national anthem before Sunday's game that Washington has no black players also.

This.

Nice story.

People can't write articles based on race?

There have been articles like that, get a clue.

There's your 1B and CF. If Speedy could lay down a bunt, he'd never get thrown out in HS.

There aren't many in the pro's either. This is something that MLB has recognized over the years and has stated as a target to shoot for.
