Ok, I've narrowed down to my final 2 choices ; SW MP 9 compact or the 9mm Beratta PX4 storm compact.

What's the scoop from the all mighty and knowledgeable OBrs?

I did search for the px4 on the site and nothing came up.

When I was researching I had it narrowed down to these two, plus the CZ P-07 duty.

I read mixed reviews on the Storm. Something about the twist action not being as great as advertised, I'm not a guru so don't know the exact specs.

I ended up shooting all three. The Storm came out last for me, I ended up going with the CZ and cannot be happier.

Of those 2, I prefer the M&P. I like the ergonomics, and I just feel like it shoots better. The PX4 is a good gun, but really excells in a full size platform, not a compact, IMO.

Do you plan on carrying it? This is a big question you need to answer.

#1 if you carry it, you'll have to get used to the DA/SA trigger of the PX4 if you plan to carry it condition 2 (loaded chamber, hammer down)

#2 the PX4 is extremely wide since the slide has safety levers on the rear. This is just another piece for your clothing to snag on

#3 the M&P can be had without an external safety - ideal for CC

#4 the M&P has the same trigger pull everytime. Refer to #1^ about the PX4

But if it's for home defense or to be used as a truck gun, you can't go wrong with either. Both are fine firearms from fine makers.

Thanks; I leaning towards the SW MP; I will use it mostly for a truck/home but want the capability to carry when needed. I think the MP compact will do both of these functions. I know you're against the external safety for a CC but I will get the MP with the thumb safety; it doesn't look too obstructive for CC; looks a lot better than the PX4. Using a safety is 2nd nature to me and with enough range time it will not be an issue if TSHTF. Thanks

I'm not against it if you incorporate it into your training. It's just about remembering to flip it off when you draw. As long as you chamber a round, I won't get on your arse too bad.

Good to hear you came to a solid conclusion. You'll love the M&P. When I hold one it feels like I'm wearing a glove.

Happy shooting!

spacewrangler,
I agree w/ all the points bapple made. I really can't add anything else except..........I think the PX4 Storms are ugly as sin, especially the compact version. I agree my observation is highly subjective, but all other things being equal, given the choice between an ugly gun and a decent looking gun, I'll go w/ decent every day.

You should try the new P 09 for a truck gun, I'd love them to come out with a 45, but 40 is the biggest they are going...for now.

Yep. I've got the PX4 .40 and it's my favorite handgun.

I also have the PX4 full size in .40. Love the gun but for cc I went with the MP c 9mm w/no safety. I liked it so much I bought the full size MP 9mm also. I shoot them all well.
