So it must be asked...if the NIT falls through...do we do CBI? (can't do CIT)

CollegeInsider.com tournament

32 teams...Mercer won it last year...at a quick glance, I don't think I saw any BCS conference teams represented. EDIT: no BCS teams are represented because they are not part of the pool of conferences from which they select teams.

College Basketball Invitational Tournament

16 teams...more from the big conferences...Pitt beat Washington State in a best 2 of 3 series to win the tournament.

This team needs more work after a 29-game season. We should take anything we can get.

The problem with those tournaments is it drains the athletic budget just to participate.

I doubt LSU plays in either one unless they are desperate to play more games.

There's really no point if the NIT passes LSU over.

It will really depend on how many sec teams make NCAA and LSU probably has to win against UGA to have a shot at NIT.

I like that. That would be fun as a last resort.

And the other one is pay-to-play, which we won't do.

Whenever I lived in St Louis, VCU and St Louis U played in the finals in the 2 of 3 series, it was pretty cool.

The team should be rewarded for a good season with some type of postseason play.

This is correct. I was reading their guide online and they do not choose from the SEC, ACC, Big-10, etc....

My mindset as well. I still think LSU can get the NIT, but more game time and experience can only help.

If we turn down a CBI chance I am seriously going to be pissed at our AD. First we schedule 29 games for the season which ultimately may be the only reason we are kept out of the NIT then turn down more home games in the CBI. We should absolutely play in the CBI with home games. This team needs more work and it could be great momentum going into next season. This entire team almost is coming back.

I agree. These lower tier tournaments provide great learning opportunities for young teams. Every game we play is another opportunity to advance the development of someone like Morgan, who will eventually be counted on to provide scoring and Hammink and Collins, who will be counted on as big time role players in the future.

Experience helps, and there are plenty of examples of teams parlaying a lower tier tournament bid one year into a successfull NCAAT run the next year.

LSU lost money to play in Peach Bowl, it wont be an issue losing money in postseason basketball. It will be valuable experience and can springboard them into next season.

I would be all for more games....but this tournament costs money. You have to pay for the right to play at home and you have to pay all of your expenses to travel. Be totally honest...how many people would buy tickets to a game in this tournament? 2,000 MAX...if that. It is a money drain and I wouldn't fault Alleva if he said no.

I'd say that's purely speculation on the attendance. I think a lot more than 2000 would buy tickets honestly. The team is still fun to watch, and we averaged over 8000 paid this year in SEC games.

Everything costs money, why are we worried how much this would cost? I'd imagine the expenses for football are WAY WAY greater than paying to play in this tournament which would provide revenue with home games. Didn't we pay for the team to go to europe and play teams before last season? Why couldn't we pay for this? Now's not the time to be cheap and penny pinching.

I would hope that if LSU were choosing to pay to participate, they would put forth some effort to market the games in order to mitigate as much of the costs as possible.

Losing to all of the NCAAT teams we played had more to do with it than not beating another SWAC team.

Without a doubt I know we would be in the NIT right now for sure had we scheduled 2 more patsy OOC games. Fact is 20 wins is a plateau. 18 wins simply doesn't look as good.
