Realistic Great Free Agent Pick Up....

Glover Quin
I think this would be a great pick up for us and I don't think it would come at that high of a price. Move poor PRob to play nickel and start this guy across from Jabari.
Quin was drafted in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. Quin made his NFL debut with the Texans against the New York Jets on September 13, 2009. During his debut game he entered the game as a nickel cornerback and also played on special teams.
On October 4, 2009 Quin started his first NFL game versus the Oakland Raiders. Quin started the next six consecutive games for the Texans through November 8, 2009.
Quin played in 15 of the Texans' 16 games during the 2009 season.
Quin finished out the 2009 season with 56 total tackles.
Quin has went on to be the starter for the Texans since then. He has racked up 314 tackles, 48 deflected passes, 5 interceptions & 3 forced fumbles.
Couldn't stop Jimmy though, but who can?

Not a corner anymore. Better fit at safety.
But a very good safety. Wouldn't mind it at all tbh.

Didn't realize they Malcomed him but that just makes him even more versatile.

I like his play style but people arent realizing that unless they restructure Harper, Vilma, and Smith...or release them...we are not going to be able to afford any FA much less our own.

I do realize this but I also know that Mickey will make a way to get who we need for whatever price we need them. Restructure, cut, whatever.

I am simply pointing out that I believe they will cut or restructure these guys to get where they need to be to bring back Bushrod and Daniel. I would love to have guys like this who have proven succes at safety and corner, but it doesnt look feasible if they will want to keep the big three on lower contracts....I hope you are right though. I trust in Mickey as well.

On Saturday, the Falcons and William Moore agreed to a new five-year deal.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the deal is worth $30 million, $14 of which is guaranteed.
Moore, 27, was going to be one of the top safeties on the free agent market. Now that Moore has a deal and Jairus Byrd was slapped with a franchise tag by the Bills, Glover Quin's stock will rise.
The Texans didn't use their franchise tag on Quin and it's likely they elected not to because of the high cap number. The tag would have paid Quin $6.9 million in 2013 with the same cap hit. That would have used up most of the Texans' salary cap room.
Instead, the Texans would like to re-sign Quin to a long-term deal with a minimal cap hit in 2013.
Quin is 27, same age as Moore. He's played in 63 games for the Texans (started 59) since being taken in the fourth round of the 2009 draft. Moore just finished the fourth year of his rookie deal too.
If nothing else, it's possible the Moore deal will become a template for Quin and his agent to shoot for. Moore's deal might set the market for the remaining free agent safeties.
Along with Quin, Dashon Goldson, Kenny Phillips, LaRon Landry, Ed Reed and Louis Delmas still remain unsigned.

It'll take a Harper cut to get enough cap space and a position for a free agent at the backend. Problem is Harper will prolly fit much better in a RR scheme. I'd expect the restructure on him. The cut & get a new guy is a very viable plan though. More a call on who they wanna go forward with in a new scheme. I think Ed Reed would be cheaper or at least will go on a 1-2yr rent a player deal versus a 5yr commintment to someone like Quin. of course that's not even addressing Quin or Reed as FS and not SS if Harper is cut. It's becoming much more left & right safeties over free & strong. dunno the nuances of RR's scheme in how that balance at safety works.

Ryan definitely uses more of a FS/Box safety scheme. I don't think we'd be looking at Reed or any FS unless they come real cheap, as IAQ has shown he could replace Jenkins if need be.
LINK
Pause it there and you can see a 3-3-5 with the SS in the box.
LINK
Pause it here and again you see the safety in the box(along with another db) with the FS playing very deep(who you can see once you play).
LINK
Here again you see the SS playing in the box with the FS deep.
Just some examples I found. But he is very much like GW and his father in using the safeties in very different roles.
This is why I keep saying Harper would be a great fit because he is an excellent box safety. He'd be playing more under zone than man which should hopefully help.

This will all come down to if Payton and Ryan think that someone on the Free Agent Market is going to give them more performace in Ryan's system than Harper can at the same or less money.

What happened to all the typical "Should We?" responses?
Note to everyone, put "Realistic Great Free Agent" before the should we in the title and everyone will not be a dick to you especially Meateye.

Out of all the guys blues mentioned, only Landry is a SS. Him and Harper play very similar(both great at run support, hard hitters, very box style safeties; both liabilities in coverage).
So who is more of a coverage liability? I think Harper is a better blitzer and better in run support while in the box, but Landry is definitely a harder hitter.
I think the only other guy out of those choices that could fit at SS is Goldson. He is definitely a hard hitter and better at coverage. But he will likely command the most money and we'll be priced out.
