I was at LSU 73 - 79. When we won the SEC for the first time in 25 years in 1979, I was the first student to camp out to get in. Eddie P, Floyd Bailey

If the PMAC comes back I would love to see mike and everyone else get rowdy and if the ncaa says to stop just get rowdier!

Rudy Macklin says to this day that the '79 team was WAY better than the '81 final four team. Scales got busted with an agent and was ineligible when they lost to eventual NC Michigan State and Magic Johnson. Macklin said had Scales played, LSU would've won easily and took the title. Said it wouldn't have even been close. LSU lost to the eventual NC in '79, '80, '81, '86, and '87 in the elite 8 or final four. Goes to show you how close they really were.

What about "the freak" defense? Dale was underrated as a strategic coach IMO.

Those days were awesome...'86 was just magical.... Remember Geert Hammink? Ricky Blanton, vernell singleton, anthony Wilson picking up that loose ball and making that last second shot? I loved those role players... Dale was not overrated as a in court coach...he got out coached all the time. I remember a game where he was mic'd during a timeout vs. Georgetown, final shot time, he tells every player that Jose Vargas is NOT to take the final shot...who ends up taking it and missing...Jose Vargas

I remember back in the day when they used to let the tiger loose on the court during games to intimidate the other team. It always drew a technical but it was totally worth it.

My LSU basketball glory days (1995-1999) can be summed up in three words. Superfan Mike Toole.

And promote. For LSU basketball to generate nearly that kind of excitement again they will have to schedule some OOC games like the program did in the 80's.

those games were great. It's still painful though that we didn't take care of UNC after the 21-9 halftime lead.

we did the same thing to see pistol pete, esp the game he broke oscar robinson's scoring record. we played ole miss and when he got one basket short the ole miss players actually backed off and let him shoot (not that they had to). it was a stirring tribute and the crowd went ballistic when he hit it. LSU basketball has had a number of funerals and resurrections and it looks like johnny jones is leading us to another one. i liked him as a player too. the man is LSU and i love what's happening right now; both for LSU and for him. i can guarantee you daddy dale is proud as punch too.
