Um, no, it's not. It's a comedy that offers "serious insights" into the life of a certain generational set of women.

Girls is definitely not a pure comedy. That's for sure. It's more drama than comedy to me. At best it's 50-50.
And they certainly do try to make us sympathetic to the characters. Not sure that can be argued. They wouldn't have these horrible episodes focusing on Hannah or the even worse hippie chick if they weren't going for sympathy.
