My buddy is on the way to Dulac and just sent me these. fricker drives like a bat out of hell on a single axle trailer. He was heading down for a small bachelor party. Glad I gave him the keys to my boat as a backup...I think.

See Meaujeaux towing him?

That sucks, I'd never let a guy borrow my boat that treats his own stuff like that.

That's the only way I let ANYONE borrow my shite. Unless you got the capital to replace it you don't get to use it.

I'd probably do the same thing.

That makes a difference. Knowing that if/when they break something they can/will replace it.

I have a couple friends like this, and I encourage them to use my stuff hoping it will break and they'll replace it with newer stuff.

Sounds like you stumbled on the source of the problem.

It took him four phone calls but he was finally able to get my boat started.

Doesn't look like he lost his axle. Looks like his bearings went out on his hub and he lost his tire. Had some issues with this a month ago. If you don't change out your bearings every few years you could potentially have this problem.

Luckily when it happend to me it happend when I was at the launch and not towing it. Nothing was holding the tire on the axle though. I pulled the tire right off.

Pack them correctly before you use it and they'll last a lot longer.

No matter how good they are packed they don't last forever. Mine lasted 15 years on my trailer before I had issues with it.

Other people (one a mechanic and the other my brother who is basically a mechanic and has tons of trailers) I talked to said that you should change out your bearings every 5 or so years if you don't want problems.

I've had both a tire come off and pass me up (on a tractor with a cane trailer on the back but was on a hwy) and the whole fricking trailer come off going about 60!

Looks like he could have had the same thing happen to him as has happen to me recently... the weld where the spindle attaches to the axle failed, causing the tire/hub to come off.
Check your welds guys, that was not a fun day!
