I fully endorse this theory. If I have to choose between a movie I'm sure will get lots of support and some small gem that I like, I'm going with the smaller movie. It gives the list more personality.

I tend to do the exact same thing.

And count me in for the point/counterpoint writing as well. Seems like a really fun concept I'd enjoy being a part of.

Will yall be angry though when me, Jamohn and iwy start debating the finer points of mustached apex predators and the benefits/drawbacks of being a pirate when we should be discussing the polarizing effects of a movie like Drive instead?

If you can bring some real humor behind things, I don't see a problem at all.

Probably two weeks to start, we'll see how active it is. My ballot is not finalized, I just want to let it sit for the weekend and I'll com back to it. At least I'll be setting a "NO MORE EDITS" Point then. I will accept new ballots for a few days after that I assume.

With 40 movies....it could take some people a long time.

I really feel that may be a barrier for some.

so if I'm reading the rules correctly, I can just put Blue right? Because while I enjoyed the trilogy, Blue is the only elite film of the bunch. (in my shitty opinion, of course )

You can just put Blue.....but your vote will count for the whole Trilogy.

It was hard to leave off so many great, game changing classics. Many of which, along with many modern era films,I would rather watch and would quicker recommend over some on my list. A median between movies that we think are best and movies we enjoy most is what was asked for and that is what I attempted to do. Ask me again in a month or so and the last 10-15 on my list could change. The Passio of Joan of Arc is not something I would recommend to most and not something I would want to watch many times over. Its one of those old classics that was so meaningful its shown to kids in schools, me being one of those. When I returned to it as an adult, it still spoke to me and I came to find, through research, that it is widely regarded as one of the most influencial, respected movies ever made. I felt obligated to include it high on my list.

Just realized I only included one 21st century film. A few that would be included on a much longer list:

Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind - Requiem for a Dream - A History of Violence - There Will Be Blood - Lost in Translation - 300 - The Master - The Departed - O Brother, Where Art Thou? - Take Shelter

About 2 weeks, maybe a little longer, since the size of the ballot is large.

In about 10 days I will put a "NO CHANGES" tag in the thread so that I can start counting. That means at least most ballots will be final. I will take new ballots from new posters, but I will start counting page by page.

Thanks. I'm relatively new to the board, so I haven't seen those old threads. Where are the final results from the old voting threads? That's the main thing I'm interested in. But the voting threads themselves don't seem to include the final results (unless I'm overlooking them).

The final threads are locked, except for the 70's. I'm not sure if an admin can link them here.
