LHSAA boots Vandebilt Catholic girls basketball out of postseason, Salmen back in, maybe

quote:

“At this point in my ruling I did put Salmen back in the playoffs.”

quote:

St. Michael, the team Salmen would face in the semifinals, has appealed today's ruling.

“We have a rule in a situation like this that you can’t put a new team in the bracket within 48 hours prior to the game,"

Basically, there's a rule against what I did, a rule I knew about, but I did it anyway.

Salmen and St. Michael played earlier this season, with Salmen winning 75-36.
I figured there was a reason that St. Michael appealed

Salmen was the best team in the state. Vandy pulled off a huge upset to beat them. St. Michael matches up much better with Vandy and would have probably been favored to beat them.

Used an ineligible player.

What I don't get is Henderson putting Salmen back in, while at the same time acknowledging that it was against the rules since it was within 48 hours of the next tip off.

Nobody wins here.

Vandebilt gets screwed/screwed itself

Salmen lost fair and square and doesn't deserve to be put back in the bracket.

St. Michael shouldn't have to play Salmen...and if Salmen isn't allowed into the bracket, St. Michael gets a bye to the title game. That deprives those kids of a chance to play a big-time semi-final game...and if they do happen to win State, it will always be tainted by the fact they played one less game.

This is my first time reading about the situation, but if Vanderbilt cheated, how did Salmen lose fair and square?

This is why I hate teams that cheat, the only right answer is to put Salmen back in..yet if they win it all, it'll be tainted

This isn't Vandebilt's first run in with this type of problem. I seem to remember something similar to this happening a few years ago in football.

According to multiple sources close to the Lady Terriers' program, the player in question is sophomore guard Jewel Triggs. Triggs played in each of Vandebilt's three playoff games to this point. She did not play in the team's final regular season game with Ellender and no reason was given for her absence. Longtime Vandebilt girls' basketball coach Kathy Luke was reached by phone Wednesday night. She said she would not confirm the report's validity, saying she "wouldn't go that far," when told the report stated the team would forfeit the win. She added that she would have no additional comment regarding the situation.
