so the Sun Belt champ gets an auto-bid every year.

i guess you're right. they don't deserve one because there is no way in hell that a sunbelt team will EVER defeat a team from a bigger conference. it's never happened in the past and it will never happen in the future.

This dude's avatar on that site.

It must have taken him a while to find a picture of something not bad happening against LSU.

They are already pointing fingers at administrators from the 1990's to blame for their current predicament

And they would be correct in doing so. Ray Authement really hurt their athletics. They didn't have an athletic foundation until he was gone. He had no idea and no interest in appropriating funds for athletics. The problem is that many were so obsessed about their conspiracy that LSU, by way of legislature and back room political pull was to blame for ULLs financial and athletic problems. They claim LSU keeps them down too protect their flagship status and their recruiting dominance. Its all pretty comical. I would argue that pure penis envy of LSU is what drove boosters and outspoken fans to put heat on Authement who finally decided to retire after 30 plus years as University President.

^^dude knows his history.

Call it "pointing fingers" if you will....

ETA: didn't read enough of that post. People actually think LSU conspired to oppress them? Haven't met one that's claimed that.

one of the hosts on 103.7 The Game was complaining that Hawthorne and Maineri called them ULL and that they had to be called UL when it comes to athletics..... Does he not realize that Jay Walker and Stevie P do the same thing to ULM when they call them Monroe???

I know plenty of good ULL fans that blame LSU for some of ULLs problems both athletically and monetarily. In fact, I know someone who worked for their school paper, The Vermilion, who believed so things. With that said, they also realize that if things were going to get better with athletics, Authement had to go.

Saint, Saint, Saint..... I personally know at least 20 cajun fans that hate LSU because of their perceived meddling in USL's affairs back in the day.......

The fact that the Big Least is resorting to Tulsa to try its best to stay relevant, should be a sign that the current FBS system is nearing an end, especially with the playoff system in place (and future expansion of it likely). Structurally, the FBS is becoming FBS-A and FBS-AA. The big schools are trying so hard to get away from the ankle-biters, and rightly so.

I can see the SEC, Big 10, PAC 12, and the Big 12 all expanding to 16 and the smaller conferences joining up to form 4 16 team or larger conferences. Playoffs will stay at 4 teams to keep the number of games down, but the big boys will dangle the carrott of giving an auto bid to the smaller conference champions an auto bid to the access bowls. That way they can get some of the $$$. The adminstrations don't care about championships they care about money. Thats why Idaho and NMSU won't move down even though nobody wants them in FBS.

Has a Sun Belt team defeated a major conference champ? How about a team on the level required to get an at-large bid?

If we are still considering them a major conference, 6 teams did last year against the Big 10 champ.

Do your own research.

Point is, a sun belt team beating a team in a major conference doesn't mean they should get an autobid to a 16 team playoff.
The occasional "upset" over a crappy bcs conference team (in the year the game was played) doesn't legitimize the conferences participation in any future playoff system.

Conference Champ, year, win over BCS conference team
Arky State 2012 - none
Arky State 2011 - none
Troy 2010 - none
Troy 2009 - none
Troy 2008 - none
Troy 2007 - Oklahoma State (7-6)
Troy 2006 - none
ULL/ULM/Arky State 2005 - none
North Texas 2004 - none
North Texas 2003 - Baylor (3-9)

In the past 10 years, there are only two wins over BCS conference competition by the Sun Belt conference champ. It's the worst FBS conference.

It's cute that you measure a teams success by them beating SEC teams.

ULM must be Sooooo much better than ULL!!!!!!! Oh nvm they haven't beaten the Cajuns since 2007.
