We're either going to have to accept much less government involvement in healthcare, or go all in with single payer. We'll do the latter IMO, and when we do we're going to have to make cuts elsewhere.

Exactly. Everybody has their hand out, but medical coverage is a priority over other bull shite. I really don't see how someone could argue that.

Much worse?? Those countries have better healthcare, by almost every measurable metric. I can almost guarantee that citizens of the countries you listed have longer life expectancies and lower infant mortality with fewer hospital visits.

Obama Care may not be the answer, but Healthcare absolutely needed/needs an overhaul.
What about the shitty government programs that we already have here? Why the frickity fricking frick do you think it is more scientific to compare two totally separate countries than to compare programs WITHIN a single country?

In a non life-threatening situation? Yeah, turn them away.

I agree turning them away in non life threatening problems.

quote:

Look at the costs for those systems. Why are they so low? I guarantee you it isn't just because they are single payer.

I know. I'm asking you why they are lower.

quote:

ou have more faith in the validity of most ER visits than I do.

I'm only talking life threatening visits.

Cut the fricking defense, welfare, child tax credits, education subsidies, and other bull shite first. I guarantee your number wouldn't approach 15%.

What kind of society do you want?

welfare

A barbaric one where we let people starve?

quote:

child tax credits

Where families can't provide for their children?

quote:

education subsidies

Where we don't educate the children, our future, to be productive and functioning members of society?

Easier said than done. Much easier to win elections on a free shite platform than a fiscal responsibility platform, just this last November for example.

However, it is pretty short-sighted to think that socializing health care would not set a dangerous entitlement sentiment.

I can concede that point. But, that doesn't mean you throw your hands up and give up. I'd be fine with a new system that doesn't involve government at all. there's just no examples of that in the WORLD. There are examples of single payer systems, which is why I used that.

Mentality of citizens. They take care of themselves. Look at obesity rates of different countries, are they less obese because of a government healthcare system? Do they take better care of themselves because of such a system? Are they going to the doctor less because of the system?

By and large, it would be abused here. We have people going to the ER for a cough. Our mentality here IS fricked and until that changes NO system will be successful here.

Socialized medicine IS a form of welfare. It is a redistributive program. Do you think the vast majority of Americans who currently approve of their healthcare in this country would just magically switch over to a system that is guaranteed to be more inefficient.

If you want a government run system, make it so that only people that use it will pay taxes that fund it.

I see your point here, but at some point enough has to be enough. Make it so people WANT to work. I don't mind giving out welfare if it's truly needed. Which in many cases, it isn't.

quote:

Where families can't provide for their children?

Please. If 1000 bucks breaks somebody for providing for their children, then they're on welfare. Also, a healthcare system that pays for contraceptives and abortions will prevent a lot of this. The tea partiers bitch about people sucking at the government tit, but then again they absolutely are AGAINST contraception for some reason. It's truly baffling.

quote:

Where we don't educate the children, our future, to be productive and functioning members of society?

You can educate, you just have to pay the fricking interest. This will eliminate a lot of the retards going to a 4 year college for a philosophy degree. This also opens up the door for us to encourage trade skills to be taught in our schools as well.

guaranteed?

Is this an indictment on the system or the government?

But applying the same "free/low-cost service for all!" type system will work for healthcare?

I know. I'm usually very FISCALLY conservative. Socially, i couldn't give a frick about gays, race, religion, abortion, what have you.

But it's said that if a republican or conservative person spoke the truth about what we need to cut and the fact that we need a new healthcare system, he would be hated by both sides.

quote:

it is pretty short-sighted to think that socializing health care would not set a dangerous entitlement sentiment.

It would. That I agree with, but the sentiment is already there. Look around. frickers are on food stampls when they're getting 12k back in taxes they never paid in.

That reminds me. Cut social security. it needs to be privatized big time. Make a new law where people only receive what they 've paid in in their life over the next 2 years and then end the motherfricker.

The way I look at things, people should be able to feed/clothe/house themselves. In all but very high rent metropolitan areas these things should be within reach, even for the poor. Are there people who need welfare/food stamps/public housing? Yes. There are also people who don't but receive them and we should work to transition people out of those programs.

Healthcare is something that can be cost prohibitive for a lot of working people without employer provided health insurance and low wages, and becoming more so every year. It's a matter of prioritizing need and where money should be spent.

I fear you're right, but that doesn't mean we should give up.

Again, I'm far from being liberal, but michelle Obama is criticized for her children's obesity initiative by the right just because she's married to Obama.

Republicans are not against contraception, republicans are against forcing employers to provide contraception. I hope you see the difference.

If you think republicans oppose contraception, do you also think they oppose healthcare, because they don't support the government form of it?

Have we really reached the point in our society where you are indicted as being against something, simply because you don't support government providing it.

I don't see providing quality health for your citizens as "redistributing." That's very limbaugh like.

If Americans made HC a priority, then changing the tax code will surely be part of it. That may be a way to get people off welfare is threaten the benefits if they don't take a job. Also, FLAT.TAX.RATE.
