I remember back in 2000, LSU & ULL played @ the old Box as #4 vs #6 midweek...

I believe it was a pedestrian game that we won rather handily as I recall.

The atmosphere was electric but the game sort've fizzled out as ULL didn't put up much of a fight for the most part. Our pitching held them down IIRC.

Fast forward to that summer, and both teams ended up in Omaha. I believe ULL took two on the road at South Carolina in the Supers to get there, and then clawed and scratched its way to Stanford before succumbing.

I know a lot of LSU Fans went to the other sessions that did not involve LSU in Rosenblatt that year and cheered heavily for ULL.

I also know-for a fact-that many ULL Fans went to sessions involving LSU & cheered for the other team.

Why does ULL hate LSU so much?

in 2000, my group stayed in omaha and cooked a huge sauce picante FOR a ton of LSU fans. We supported the other team from the great state of LA. when we lost out.

truthfully, we were still on a cloud for just making it there.

that was before Saban, so LSU and ULL football had been on the same level there for a decade. LSU didn't talk trash and ULL didn't have envy... they also weren't as militant about the name

A cousin of mine was a starter on that ULL team and we were there in Omaha. I'm a diehard LSU fan so that trip was a once in a lifetime trip for me to see my cousin play there and also to see LSU play there. We cheered as hard for ULL as we did for LSU. That was a trip I'll never forget.
ULL had a 9-run advantage over Stanford in that game and we all thought they'd win. They still had to play Stanford one more time later that day to be able to play LSU in the championship game. That was the most conflicted I've ever been in sports. Would I pull for my cousin against LSU or would I pull for LSU against my cousin?
I think in the end, I would have pulled only for my cousin when he was at bat or in the outfield but overall I would have pulled for another LSU championship.
Fortunately (I guess), ULL lost and LSU played Stanford for one of the most thrilling championship wins ever (except for Warren Morris).

In 2003 (I think) at regional at the old box, lsu played against USL; Laff. Only had to win one game to go the regional, they had played against lsu 3 times that season and won all 3 times. At the box regional though LSU blew them away in 2 games. In game 2 the USL pitcher threw at the head of the LSU batter who had homered and played big in game one. He was ejected and so was USL coach. Got ver nasty and has been that way since apparently. (lsu lost at super regional by the way).

It's called penis envy. We have a big one. They don't. They don't matter. We do.
