I need to put a plug in my bed for a gooseneck. Is there a kit/wiring harness that I can plug in and not have to splice in wires?

2012 Chevy 2500 4x4, has the factory brake controller.

Also where is a good place in Baton Rouge to get a gooseneck hitch installed. I don't feel like messing with that again. Kirks can do it. May just go there. Unless someone has another recommended spot.

That was central hitch. Was a great place but idk if they're even in business anymore.

Bout damn time GM started putting brake boxes in HD trucks. Now all they need to do is stop putting bed cross members right where the ball needs to go and they'd be in good shape.

Dust, if there's a way to just plug it up idk about it. I think they just want you to use the bumper plug.

I found some harnesses online. They are about $80. Looks like it plugs into the wiring harness at the bumper and then runs to the bed. Kirks can do it for $120 so I'll probably let them do it. And they will probably do the hitch also. I've put one in before and it ain't the funnest thing to do.

I like that one better. I've always had welded in. But I like being able to remove the ball when needed.

Most modern trucks are prewired for everything from the factory. This means that on Fords, the XLs will be prewired for all the extra speakers, power windows, fog lights, etc. I am fairly certain that they are all wired for trailer lights and maybe even trailer brakes too. I am uncertain if this holds true for GM as well but it seems that you have resolved the problem already.

Mines welded in and I hate it.

Those B&W removable jobs are slick. They're probably rated for more weight than the old school jobs anyway.

I was leary when they first got popular 15 years ago. But I think they have been tested and improved enough since then.

I did one a while back and got all of the parts from Mike Gerald's.

Eta: I put a 5-pin in the bed of a 2009 Dmax, and definitely had to do some electricity work to figure out what wire was what. You have to splice to keep the plug on the trailer hith

I pulled a D37 Komatsu dozer on a 40' gooseneck from Monroe to Geismar with mine.

They will tote the load.

What I just got. Paid $300 for one NIB. Havent installed yet, but looks like nothing will be an issue. Have the harness in the glove box for brake control. Think I will let my light wire drop from the mid neck area on the trailer and just plug straight under the bumper. Gonna try that before I do any rewiring anyway.

That's what we've been doing. It's way easier to rig the trailer for the bumper plug than it is to rig the truck for the bed plug.

You might have to worry about it getting snagged on stuff, or getting pulled somehow when it isn't located at the pivot point. Moves more than I like. I just liked having it look clean also.

Only took about 3 hours and a couple of diagrams off of the internet to go 7-pin on the bumper to 6-pin mounted right in front on the driver's fenderwell in the bed. I did it in a full R&D/fab shop, so I had basically everything I needed right there. The trailer wire for our trailer wasn't just hanging out all willy nilly though. It was running inside the neck up to the front.

We got that Simple Simon on Airline and Cloverland to put the hitch in, and also some airbags while they were at it.

I wouldn't trust Kirks to load bags of sand in the back of my truck
