I always give a solid handshake. What freaks me out the most is the people (especially older) who keep holding on to the handshake. I met our new department head the other day and after introducing myself the handshake went on for another 30 seconds while the conversation continued. Wasn't sure how break it so I just tried to slowly reduce the squeeze pressure until he finally pulled away.

I have an older neighbor who does this. He'll start asking me questions like how I'm doing and stuff at the start of the handshake, and he won't let go until after I'm done answering his questions. He's a pleasant guy, but that is kind of wierd.

I always grip the shite out of people's hands, look them in the eyeballs and give a firm shake. Womenz and menz. I have gotten some very surprised looks from some menz. I teach my 5 year old to do the same. They go over it with the kids in karate also. Super important IMHO.
I also make the 5 year old hold doors open for me. I will stop and wait until he walks in front of me and gets it. He does it now without prompting, and will run I front of old peoplez and womenz to do the same.
