i switch back and forth from being lazy with k-cups to making a pot in the vacuum coffee maker. obviously, the pot of coffee tastes better than the k-cup, but its so nice to just press a button and have a cup or two ready.

it defeats the purpose of even drinking a cup of coffee .. which is because it tastes good and because it gives you a jolt of caffeine. frick you might as well buy some tea bags and use the hot water feature on your office's water cooler to make a nice cup of tea.

I enjoy the keurig we have at work. It's all about what k cups you actually have around though

Does hot water really come out of the other spigot of the water cooler? I've never used it, but I feel like there isn't a hot water heater in those things, so you just get some room temperature shite.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell how much coffee costs, even if you know what you spent. At least that’s the case with many of the single-serve brewing machines that are soaring in popularity.

For example, the Nespresso Arpeggio costs $5.70 for 10 espresso capsules, while the Folgers Black Silk blend for a K-Cup brewed-coffee machine is $10.69 for 12 pods. But that Nespresso capsule contains 5 grams of coffee, so it costs about $51 a pound. And the Folgers, with 8 grams per capsule, works out to more than $50 a pound.

That’s even more expensive than all but the priciest coffees sold by artisanal roasters, the stuff of coffee snobs.

An exclusive single-origin espresso like the Ethiopia, Gedeo Single Origin Espresso from Sightglass Coffee costs $19 for a 12-ounce bag, or about $25 a pound. La Cima beans for brewed coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters, a Grand Cru selection grown at Finca el Injerto, a renowned farm in Guatemala, is $28.50 for a 12-ounce bag, or $38 a pound.

In fact, most high-end coffees cost less than $20 a pound, and the coffees you find on supermarket shelves are substantially cheaper. A bag of Dark Espresso Roast beans at Starbucks is $12.95 a pound, and a bag of Eight O’Clock beans for brewed coffee at the Food Emporium is $10.72 a pound.

The one in my office has a blue handle and a red handle. The red handle spout pours out screaming hot water.

They don't all suck. I got a keurig and like a lifetime supply of k cups as a Christmas gift and I've been pleasantly surprised at how good some of them taste, specifically Dunkin Donuts, which is my favorite coffee anyway.

How does the level of water in the reservoir make a difference? It makes the same size cup of coffee (depending on what size you select) whether the reservoir is full or half full.

apparently so.

you think a k-cup defeats the purpose of drinking a cup of coffee? and the point of you drinking a cup of coffee is because it tastes good and gives you a jolt of caffeine?

a k-cup gives you a jolt of caffiene and i think it tastes good enough to drink when i'm feeling lazy, but not as good as other methods of producing a cup of coffee.

The media has hijacked my taste buds? There are a few k-cups I really like. If anything, the people that are loyal to Community simply because they grew up with it are brainwashed.

I think what he is saying is if you want a stronger cup of coffee then you can't make a large cup of coffee. No matter what size cup of coffee you make, the same amount of coffee grounds will be used.

"feeling lazy" ... the key concept behind the entire Keurig craze.

and k-cups for the most part taste like shite and it's proven they have less amounts of caffeine than a cup you can brew yourself.

Maybe they're brewing Community Dark Roast?

we tried most of them and the only good ones are the starbucks brand. and they sucked until we took the filter out. that fricking thing throws a weird taste that ruins the coffee

How is this relevant to the conversation? Dark roast coffees have less caffeine than medium roasts.
