I've had around two dozen, but they haven't been a problem since I picked up that habit. I drink Coors light so its like I'm hydrating anyway.

I've read a little bit of first page. I've had some where it felt like someone was kicking you in one nut and the other was being stretched out and some chick in heels was stomping on that one. Others, I had a sharp pain then it would subside, but the pain always comes back until it hits the toilet. But if you have a blockage, you should be seeing some color change in urine, and feeling worse by the hour. The one that blocked my kidney, i would have cut it out if I could have gotten out of the fetal position. God Bless.

This is when being a woman is better...it moving around in my kidney was awful and it getting in to my bladder and coming out was much easier. Just some small spasms.

Aren't kidney stones pretty heriditary? And if you haven't had them by age20 you probably won't? Thought I read this

Nope. Dad had his first one at 33, my first was 31.

Not true. I was pissing crimnson colored piss out with no pain whatsoever at first. Turned out to be a kidney stone.
Actually, kidney stones are painless until they pass into the ureter on their way to the bladder. We see them a lot on CT scans in asymptomatic people. Your symptoms don't sound much like a kidney/ureteral stone.

I had a small kidney stone last year that cause a fair amount of pain, not fetal position pain but enough to respect those who had it much worse.

I guess i havent passed it yet i been pissing through a strainer for the last two weeks nothing has come out but a few globs of blood.

You will know if you have a kidney stone. Here's a hint: you're posting on TD, you don't have one

Rookies. I quit counting years ago after about 100...avg probably 1 per month since then...conservative estimate. Some put you in fetal position, some make you throw up, some make you feel exactly like someone said about getting kicked in the nuts, etc...some are just uncomfortable. Once you have one...you will always know it. Only way to know for sure is to get a scan. As to how long it takes to pass...depends. I have had some thathave taken 2 weeks of pretty much continual pain...doc told me one was small enough to pass....I cursed him when I spit out what looked to be a #2 pencil eraser. Don't mess around with it if it continues...not common...but they can block a kidney and also cause severe infection.

It really depends how big they are, which can be determined by a CT scan. Small stones (< 5mm) will usually pass on their own. They are usually just treated with supportive measures - fluid hydration, pain control, flomax. Larger stones may require a procedure to either retrieve the stone or to break it up (lithotripsy). I didn't see it mentioned, but most urologists will recommend saving the stone or debris if it is your first stone so that they can analyze it to see what type of stone it is.
