And, yes, there's this. That's why population density (earning a living) needs to grow.

Might as well throw Katrina in that too
Say what? Retire Hurricane Katrina's jersey?

As long as he doesn't win a championship elsewhere, I say he gets it retired here. As well he should.
His "Hornets" jersey should be retired. It should have nothing with to do with Pelicans, because we have moved on.

Chris Paul played for the Hornets for 6 years.
...I counted 37 instances of players getting their jerseys retired with a team playing there for 6 seasons or less.
19 have been NBA champions
3 are part of the NBA's top 50 (haven't also won championships)
5 died while playing for that team.
Ed McCauley and Larry Nance were the first ever All-Star game MVP and slam dunk contest winner, respectively.
...I counted 8 guys that have had their jerseys retired without being a top 50 player, NBA/ABA champion, or dying while in the league (also McCauley and Nance):
Tim Hardaway
Bob Lanier
Tom Chambers
Charles Barkley
Geoff Petrie
Maurice Stokes
Vlade Divac
Jeff Hornacek
...all of these guys either played their whole careers with that team, finished their career with that team, or played their prime with that team (and left as free agents in the twilight of their careers).
Barkley may be an exception.
Paul left in his prime, because HE wanted to, and he didn't ever reach a Western Conference Finals....no chance in hell he deserves to have his jersey retired

Paul did not save the franchise. The team never averaged more than 15k when he was here. Benson saved the franchise.

So when CP3's jersey gets retired (which it will) are you going protest at its unveiling?
Posted on 2/17/13 at 7:48 pm to HeadyBrosevelt
Not at all. They need more retired numbers in the rafters. For a team over 25 years old to only have a dead player's jersey and a player who was never a member of the Hornets retired is pretty sad. In that span teams the same age as the Hornets have had a lot more success (2 titles in Miami, 2 Finals appearances in Orlando, WCF in Minnesota) That said, he did not save the city.

The did average well of 15k at least one season while Chris was here and averaged higher than they did pre-Katrina.
Many Louisiana-born HoF'ers. Pick one. Or all. Bill Russell seems a good place to start.
