Gunbot has been showing 80gr Match Grade for 30 cents per round cheaper than 55gr for the last few days. If I had a Match Grade barrel I'd prob be all over it.

Not a bad price at all. No need for a "match grade" barrel but you better have a 1:7 twist or lower to even think about stabilizing that big of a round.

The add for it says "For use in throated match barrels only"

Well it may be then. Will have to hear from someone that knows for sure.

I aint scared to say when I dont know something. I just dont see how this would be any different than normal ammo, except it being heavy, very heavy.

A made up term people in the gun industry use so they can charge more money?

That was my exact thought.
I mean... I know there are gun parts, barrels, rounds etc that are made to tighter tolerances/QC, but I think in general there is no standard for what constitutes "match grade." In other words, a gun manufacturer can stick it on whatever they want and try to charge higher prices....and example would be the XDm

Its not quite the same thing as trying to shoot a .308 out of a .223.

I always thought it was just ammo loaded to much tighter tolerances so that it will group tighter. Kinda like hand loading.

I'm pretty sure that's all it is. They probably just do it in smaller batches so they can test weights and cases and whatnot more often so they don't risk doing a long run where a bunch of them might be a little off from the ones that come before them.

Most match ammo is just a better made ammo, basically a fine tuned ammo for use in competitions. SOME can be made for throated barrels which the round is usually a small bit longer than usual and can cause problems with jamming or maybe not even shoot. But yes if it is made for a throated match barrel then dont buy it for use in a regular gun, it may shoot ok, it may not even chamber, and it may cause alot of problems, not worth the chance.

Everyone is saying what i basically thought; however, I am seeing many people say I have to have a special match barrel to shoot it.
