um remember Obama the idget cut off our missile defense system overseas and I am sure the democrats spent all the money on field mice studies and chinese hookers for NASA to blow away any near miss hits.

I was an engineer for the Missiles and Fire Control sector at Lockheed Martin for several years. I know what we are capable of doing. This shite is child's play.

However, feel free to sit behind your computer and pretend like you know what you are talking about. I find it quite comical.

without knowing about it first, no chance we could get it in at times...

Like I said, the technology has been in place for decades to intercept these. Not necessarily saying we would destroy it into little bitty bitesize pieces, but we would be able to break it into chunks.

I don't think some of you realize how blatantly obvious it is when one of these objects is headed towards earth. We monitor space debris the size of a washer and you don't think we keep track of an object the size of a schoolbus or whatever it is? Whenever these things get close to our orbit we watch them very, very closely.

Wow, then it is settled.

Glad a guy on the Internet that used to work for Missiles and Fire Control sector at Lockheed Martin cleared this up. Settle down everyone, all is calm now.

...yet the RUSSIANS are able to do just that, with inferior technology, in a remote area, over a greater distance?

I'm fairly sure I have a better understanding of what our missiles are and are not capable of doing than you is all I'm saying.

I have justification to say what I say. You are just talking out of your ass.

if you think the Russians hit this thing with a rocket, well then this conversation is over.

I am in no means an expert, but I'm willing to bet intercepting a non aerodynamic piece of rock that will reflect a radar signature as big as a house is a lot easier than a missile specifically designed to be aerodynamic and hard to hit. Entry velocities would be similar, video and article says this was a low trajectory entry, which if I'm not mistaken is the ideal ICBM trajectory as well.

Terminal homing is IR. That meteor burning up that hot, against the backdrop of space.... yea wouldn't be hard to find.

I have no idea what the Ruskies have for ABM capability but most American missiles use a kinetic kill vehicle... kills skin on skin, but a meteor is way more dense than an ICBM

Ahhh ok. Here come the tin foil hats.

You are right. I'm done with this convo. Too much stupidity on the OT this morning for me to handle. I need at least a couple cups of coffee first.

Obama has pumped more money into the MDA and programs like STANDARD Missile GMD and MEADS then anyone before. But since its Obama you will just ignore that. You are delusional

I just do not think all are tracked. These things do not have to be big to do damage.

I think a smaller one undetected could slip in and take out a city block without anyone knowing until it happens

They're on to us...

re: Meteorite crashed in Russia...

explain how we get a interceptive rocket to a meteor we don't know about fast enough...this thing is entering the top of our atmosphere at 38,000mph, I'm pretty sure that's faster than you typical ICBM...

nope

because if it is that small, it will burn up when it enters the atmosphere

if it is big enough to survive enough through the atmosphere, we will have seen it

ICBMs typically are around 10,000 mph when they re-enter
