One public option cannot fix the education problem in the USA, but early childhood development with the right teachers is a big step.

With pay increases and perhaps a college loan repayment program more of our brightest will become teachers.

It actually probably did, in founding your social base, human interaction, and the basics of learning.

I love how in your mind early childhood development is just "babysitting". And people wonder why our education system is failing.

I for one am not wondering. It is failing because it is a bad system.

That is a really good idea buddy. Our best and brightest should become glorified babysitters instead of doctors or engineers.

We have had Headstart for how long now? How has that worked in the urban areas where it is the norm for pre=K in terms of end product in education of graduates years later, and how has the end product compared with other industrialized over the last thirty years?

I went to public school the entire time. It is glorified baby sitting. Thank God I learned on my own because of all the idiots I went to school with were doing whatever they wanted while the teachers begged them to just attempt tests and homework (which they did in class with the teacher sitting there). The students with potential got the least attention. It is just a glorified baby sitting system where the strong are neglected and the terrible are babied to keep pass rates up. My parents cared enough to teach me what the school didn't or later in life I taught myself. Teachers cannot afford to focus on the good kids or they will fail because of the losers. People need to be responsible for their damn kids.

Our best and brightest is a general term dumbass. We need good teachers to be able to produce more engineers and doctors in the future. Our rates here for those graduates is laughable compared to other countries.

Most students who are destined to be engineers and doctors will find a way to become that regardless of the teacher. I know plenty who are nearly self reliant and always have been. It is hard for liberals to believe this but people do not need the government to become successful. We are not laughable because of lack of teachers we are laughable because of lack of parents and kids who give a shite.

Your attacks like this actually make you look like a dumbass. Either make an argument that makes sense on its own or shut up.

We may have that but currently we are promoting this behavior. Basically, rewarding people who shouldn't have kids to have as many as possible.

As said above, sometimes parents are shitty and the greater society as a responsibility to become involved

I will meet you in the middle, I will accept my responsibility to do more for these kids if you help punish parents who keep having kids when they shouldn't.

Punishing the child for the parents mistake will not solve the problem.

Nope. Feel free to help all you want, but don't involve me. I don't give a shite.
