This x 100000.

We would be living in a much better country right now if government schools had never existed IMO.

The issues plaguing public schools in this country boil down to parental involvement and the atmosphere around the school. If the parent(s) don't give a shite about their kids' education, getting them in a year earlier won't make a lick of difference and the cycle will continue.

Isn't it contradictory? Free birth control for those that can't afford it, free pre-school for those that can't afford it. Abortion on demand for those that want it.

Do we want kids or not? Administration needs to make up its mind...

I could not disagree more. The public school system cannot be flexible enough to suit the needs of every "involved parent" (parenthesis not meant in demeaning manner). We would need many more smaller specialize systems to achieve this goal, and in the end the system would quickly gobble these up.

A diverse private sector, in fair competition (read: no public system) would better meet your criteria.

It's an example of the perfect Dem ploy. It's retarded, wasteful, doesn't make a damn bit of difference and solves no problems while pushing scarce resources to the right places for the Dems.

But, if you stand up against it for those reasons, you hate children.

Rinse, repeat. Works every time.

They want control. It has nothing to do with kids. The system cannot fulfill its promises and allow the liberties we claim to want. One of the two ideas must go away, you guess which one they want to go away.

We keep treating the symptoms and not the disease.

It is also about indoctrination.

How many school teachers employed by the government will spend class time teaching students about the threats that government poses to freedom?

Public schools in upper class, higher income areas are significantly better than those in lower class, lower income areas. It's no coincidence that lower income parents tend to work more and be less involved with their children's education. Not to mention the percentage that straight up doesn't give a shite about what their kids do in school or life. When there is accountability at home for grades and behavior, performance will surely be better.

You can't expect a public school to completely rear, discipline and properly socialize every kid that walks through the door.

I agree. I think indoctrination is a forgone conclusion.

It is unavoidable even in a private system. However, the difference is the diversity that private systems can offer. Public systems are only so malleable.

This is the feared rumors of a few years ago becoming reality. It's more taxpayer-sponsored free daycare. First it was all day kindergarten. Little 5 year olds sitting in a room all day and falling asleep in the afternoon while watching movies. Now it's going to be little 3 and 4 year-olds getting more government indoctrination during story hour and circle time. And we the taxpayers will pay through the nose while the government gets more and more control over our kids. Next it will be taking away the right to homeschool our kids! It's coming just like this was down the pike a few years ago!

And you think this is because the parents are working all the time? Latch key kids are extremely prevalent in upper middle class and middle class families. The same families that produce the best student.

There are more factors in play than availability of the parents and their interest in their kids education.

This problem is never going away.

I guess this is true. So while we are all waiting for this to be a universal parental trait, we should keep dumping money into a public school system that does not meet the needs of parents and their children?

Public school is a failure. Theoretically this is because the system was not designed to flex and grow according to the stress of diverse educational needs. It was designed to provide a median level of education to as many people as possible. The problem is that it has crushed the ability of a naturally tailored private system to thrive.

No, I'm arguing that that is a reason this universal preschool won't do anything to fix the broken public school system.

I apologize, I got my wires crossed.
