LSU Softball Played Ole Miss OOC Yesterday?

I saw in the newspaper this morning that LSU's softball team played Ole Miss in a nonconference game. Granted, I am all for not acknowledging Ole Miss as an SEC institution in any form or fashion but I still found this very odd. Is this typical to play teams from inside your conference and not have it count in the SEC standings in softball?
I know, its softball, who cares, but I still find it very interesting and would like to get some more information. I'll hangup and listen.

It's a girl thing.
LSU and Ole Miss don't play each other this season so they scheduled them as a non-conference game meaning it won't count in conference standings.

W.T.H.?
That wouldn't have happened if they were Alabama's rival.

Imagine if football teams could do this to keep precious rivalries in tact when they aren't scheduled on the cross division rotation.

I think this actually happened recently...I think it was Utah that had a game scheduled with Cal before they entered the pac12. When the schedule came out, Utah didnt play cal in conference play so the first game of the season Utah and Cal played a non-conference conference game.

Alabama and Auburn do it every year in baseball. They play a midweek game.

Softball doesn't have rules, only Patrick Wright.

All along, I thought this was the best solution to the Alabama/Tennessee permanent Eastern Division rival issue (and Auburn-Georgia, for that matter). The SEC should have said "there will be no permanent opponents from the opposite division. If you want to play a team from the other division and they aren't in the rotation in a given year, you are more than welcome to schedule them as a "non-conference" opponent. And to the assholes at Alabama and Tennessee, we will even be nice enough to leave the 3rd Saturday in October open just for you"

It should have read "Softball doesn't have rules, only Rachele Fico", followed by a pic...

Ole Miss and Mississippi State do it in baseball as well. They play in Jackson at the Braves' AA team's ballpark.

Thanks for the info guys. As stated previously in this thread, I think this playing a team in your conference in a non-conference setting coudl solve some of the scheduling problems in football such as the necessity of Alabama playing Tennessee and/or Auburn every year. Maybe one day this can be used.

9-1 LSU victory. Four Tiger home runs and an eleven strikeout gem from Fico.

So do Ole Miss and State.

Xavier and Butler did this in basketball this year too with Butler's move to the A-10.

I can tell all of you, that LSU softball is the real deal. Torina has them working hard already. Fico has a good chance of getting player of the year which would be well deserved. She is a soldier...and keep your eyes open for freshman Kelsi Kloss.....She is a catcher and the real deal...LSU played all out last night......Great game.

If they can do it in softball, then Alabama/Tennessee and Auburn/Georgia can do it in football when those games rotate off of their SEC schedules.

I wish baseball would do this. It's an RPI utopia.
