Ben Affleck is not THAT bad of an actor. Most of his troubles in the late-90s and early-00s had to do with the movies he chose to appear in. He was good in Shakespeare in Love as well as Good Will Hunting. He also was pretty good in The Town and Argo.
Affleck's woes had everything to do with script selection.

I never cared for him until The Town, but I really liked it and really liked Argo as well
