that call was neither stupid nor lucky. we'd have still been able to kick the fg if it was incomplete.
No the stupid call (that worked) was a fourth down conversion from inches. We lined up in our set with the recessed offensive linemen. All you had to do was go behind Big Herm and we would have gotten the first. The play has, as far as I know, never been stopped since Les has been here in short yardage situations.
Given all of that, Les and the Wizard call fake QB sweep, HB throw back. If it weren't for Keiland Williams beasting--he made a great catch and then broke a tackle to barely get the first, we would remember that game for how frickING stupid a call that was when Flynn falling forward would have given us a first.

the dumbest part about the game, imo, was the time management of everything. the previous play ended with 37 seconds left. we had one timeout left. it was 3rd down, so i understand why he wanted the clock to run down and keep the timeout: you run one more play and still have a timeout left in case flynn gets sacked. however, we waited until there was only 9 seconds left to actually snap the ball. we executed the play perfectly, but so much could have easily gone wrong there. i also agree that it's ridiculous that people made such a big deal of the clock only having 1 second left because had they needed to review the play, it clearly shows the clock ran off about 2-3 seconds of extra time. regardless, i was losing my mind in the stadium when they just kept letting the clock run down. i thought it was going to be the last play of the game and was thinking wtf are you doing les? i also don't understand the point of throwing to the endzone in that situation. there was no way auburn was going to be able to get in field goal range, and i long pass to the endzone has a much lower probability of working than trying for a short field goal.
