Pretty spot on post IMO. He's nothing more than a decent actor. Apparently, that's what Americans want as a President now.

Is that really what is needed, a candidate with swagger, and if so, could it not be said that all hope is already lost? I mean, if all that is needed is that, why not just go find a zig ziglar or Dale Carnegie master and let them have at it? I understand that people feel they need to be inspired from the office of the president, but people on the left are being inspired already, and where are we at right now? Maybe what we really need is effectual leadership, fiscal responsibility, and.a plan for this country's present and future credibility rather than a really polished public speaker. Maybe what we really need is somebody who understands basic fricking economics rather than someone who is a polished bull shite artist to tug at people's hearts.

That was Mitt Romney. However, with today's 24/7 news cycle and influence of pop culture, simply having someone who knows everything isn't going to cut it. If the GOP continues to nominate policy experts like McCain or Romney, they'll lose every election. Sadly, that's just the nature of the beast. Its not about your credentials, its about communication and PR. The Dems kill the Republicans in this regard. The GOP needs someone savvy enough to cut through the noise and effectively communicate that the GOP/conservative message isn't exclusive to rich white people or ultra-conservatives. We've got to get our foot in the door first before it becomes a permanent minority party.

Could it be that Democrats have no problem lying to the American people? So, they can confidently say anything. Republicans claim to be more religious so maybe it is not easy for them to lie. Let's face it they are all lying so which group can do it confidently better has to be the group with less of a conscious. Just a thought.

It's been mentioned here but it's charisma. Whoever said swag I think meant charisma as we know it. It's why people with less qualifications get a job after an interview over someone more qualified. No big shocker here. With media now, a candidate must have that "it" that draws people to him/her. The days of just substance from an old man isn't going to cut it. It sucks but it's reality. Many books on the subject with authors like Olivia Fox Cabane and Nicholas Boothman.

24 hours after Chris Dorner was linked with the killings in LA, his former college football coach was interviewed by the national media. How many of Obama's former professors or classmates were interviewed DURING his campaign for President?
You are seriously making this comparison? If Dorner had a staff devoted solely to media relations, were himself traveling around the country giving speeches and answering questions from the media, making daily (if not hourly) press releases available to the media, had an entourage of them traveling with him wherever he went, and were generally as visible and available as Obama (or any candidate) was in a presidential election, do you seriously think they would have had to try to look up his old football coach? Or that they would have bothered?

Charisma... sure. That's another word for it. The more charismatic candidate almost always wins. Obama took the charisma to the next level... like a movie star. Take Marco Rubio yesterday giving his response to the SOTU. He looked nervous and especially awkward when taking that drink of water. A person with charisma could have hidden his nervousness and taken a drink without looking awkward while doing it. Judging Rubio on that moment is silly, but people do it. Constantly. People are always observing body language even if only on a subconscious level. Looking nervous and awkward does not project calm and confidence... things people desire in a leader.

I'm not talking about his "acting", if that's what you mean. I'm talking about how he comes across in interviews.
