I'm very conservative but I totally disagree with comis! Rascim Is wrong flat out! They make New Orleans and our state look bad. These same people will sit and root for black football players but those same players are not good enough to be in your orginazation ! Shame on comus!!

This thread has been a good discussion, the Comusites here are young and probably have no memories of what that parade was like...and I will say again, it was a shitty parade that wasn't really fun to watch... There have been some really good points made here about the changing demographics of New Orleans and how someone like Tom Benson or Ronnie Lamarque would have a snowball's chance in hell of getting into Comus...for that matter, what about Archie Manning or Drew Brees? and that to me is what's wrong with Comus, I remember Moon Landrieu talking with a reporter back in the 1970's about talking to the captains of the old line organizations about allowing newcomers to New Orleans to join...their refusal to think about it caused more than one business not to locate in New Orleans as their wives and daughters wouldn't be allowed to take part... Glassman is more an expert on the subject than I'll ever be (or am interested in being actually) and he's commented that Rex has changed some because it's tied to the business community, but organizations like Endymion will grow in prestige because it's easier for newcomers to get in... note...Lithium, Hurricane Dunc and I were all on Endymion 15B

I believe LSU2005 said he was 23 and Wooley is getting his wisdom teeth pulled today, so I'd guess those guys were no more than toddlers, if they were even born, the last time Comus rolled. It always amuses me when people complain about a parade being late, too fast, too slow, don't throw enough, don't throw enough of the stuff I want, don't throw enough of the stuff I want directly to me, etc. Those people are coming out of their own pocket to put on a show for 99% complete strangers and 1% family and friends. If you stopped every car at the corner of Napoleon and St Charles today and asked the drivers to throw several thousand dollars out of their car windows between there and Canal St., how many takers would you get? None, and not just because a bunch of them did it already in the past week.

Good for them but a parade full of cheapasses isn't going to have a good rep.

I totally get that. That's why people flock to Endymion, Bacchus and Orpheus - it's just raining throws. (no disrespect intended to Muses, Tucks and the other parades that throw a lot) But even the riders in the "cheap" parades are spending their own money to entertain mostly strangers. 95% of the people on the parade route either wouldn't or couldn't even consider blowing the money various Krewe members do. But people continue to show up even for the lamest parades (and then often complain about them). Whaddaya want fa nuthin'!!!!!

no, they will not parade again. A good friend of mine's dad was in comus - and back when Dorothy Mae's rule passed and was first implemented - he and his brother - were both kinda glad - because they did not like parading. Parading was but a small part of the krewe's existence. My friend is now in and he has no interest in parading. I am pretty certain the other two comusites I know in my age group feel the same way. It's a shame because, they in effect shaped what mardi gras became.

Endymion was always one of my favorites. That would probably be my first choice if I were going to join a krewe.

i do agree that comus shaped what mardi gras became, but mardi gras passed comus by (at least the parading part) it was very evident to me from the first time i saw comus come round st charles ave onto canal that the membership didn't seem like they were into parading (and this was 1966!!!!!!!) organizations like muses, tucks, thoth, and d'etat are a lot more fun to watch than comus ever was....could you see comus having marching units like the elvii, the 9th ward marching band, or the camel toes....much less the 610 stompers!!!! then for sheer spectacle, the super krewes can't be beat (shameless plug for the new endymion ponchatrain beach float here )

That fricking float had to have the barricades moved back on both sides at Lee Circle by the Exxon and took 5 minutes to pass by

After being split in two to negotiate the corner at Orleans and Carrolton. I read that it was 365' long! I know Endymion likes "big", but WTF?!?
