There have been 65,376,373 background checks completed for Americans purchasing firearms since February of 2009, the first full month of Barack Obama's presidency. According to data compiled by the FBI, the number of Americans purchasing guns has skyrocketed since Obama was elected. In 2009, there were 13,984,953 background checks for Americans buying firearms. If we subtract the 1,212,860 checks completed in the month of January, the total checks for the year under Obama were 12,772,090. For 2010, background checks totaled 14,320,489. In 2011, checks were 16,336,732, and in 2012, 19,463,832. Background checks for the month of January 2013 were 2,483,230. This totals 65,376,373 background checks completed since President Obama's first full month in office, or 44,748 background checks per day! By comparison, the number of gun purchases in Obama's first term is 91.1% higher than President George W. Bush's first-term total of 34,214,066 background checks.

65,376,105 purchased by the OB.
Also, I guess that should be new gun purchases as it would not include private sales.

2012 I bet there's a spike of accidents in LA and other highly populated OB areas...

Yes, that would include gun show sales. Where did this rumor that background checks don't happen at gun shows get started? Our well informed and honest media?

Actually, I had no idea. I have never been to a gun show. I thought those were considered private transfers. I stand corrected.

And that is only background checks, more than one firearm can be sold on a single NICS check. Also in some states if you have a concealed carry permit NICS is not required...

Most sellers at gun shows are FFL dealers, but there are always one or two that are just personal sellers. Especially lately with guys just walking around with a rifle over their shoulder and a for sale sign duct taped to it.

There is no way in our lifetime that anyone will ever confiscate every firearm from every citizen in this country. Once everyone realizes this simple fact, things will be back to normal, IMO.

The Firearms industries is one of the few that has been stimulated in this economy. No mater had bad the economy was doing, firearm sales were on the rise. Proud to do my part.

Total number of guns owned by law enforcement is around 4,000,000.
To make sure everyone understands, there is no gunshow loophole. All the laws that apply to firearm sales outside of the gunshow apply inside of the gunshow. There is nothing special about sales at a gunshow.

Effing volcanoes, tornadoes, fires, maritime accidents and hurricanes. Unluckiest bunch of SOBs (pardon the pun) I ever saw.

So true! The phrase "gun show loophole" is another example of "lame street media" latching onto a phrase developed by enemies of the Seconde Amendment and then reporting it as "news." Unfortunately, supporters of the Second Amendment have very few friends in the media to report the truth and even fewer smooth talking and articulate proponents doing the interview circuit. I really appreciate the hard work Wayne LaPierre and others have done on our behalf, but one has to admit they're just not very persuasive debators....
