It's a zombie survival game. You run around and collect supplies in random towns on this russian map, all the while you are avoiding zombies and other people.Both of whom will kill you on sight. You have to get Arma II Advanced Operations, then download the Dayz commander to get to the mod and other maps. So it's a completely different game, someone made the DAYZ mod which is it's own game.

Right now it is a mod for Arma 2. They have been in the works for an official stand alone game the past year or two and it should be released hopefully early this year.

I got the game DLed but i can't figure out how to join a server. It is telling me that "server is running a different mod" then it kicks me. What do i do to fix it?

You probably need to update your maps and dayz mod. Open up DayZ Commander and click on Install/Update at the top right corner. You definitely need to make sure that Dayz commander, Arma 2, and Dayz all show (latest) in the drop down menu. If it looks like mine then it should work. If it says install next to the drop down menu, then you need to install the update.
