Living in Louisiana should I stay in doors?

Your really not winning here. So everyone with children should stay home? NO CHILDREN AT PARADES Want a sausage fest at your precious Mardi Gras. You sound like you ride so answer the question.

How hard would it be for a gentlemen on a float to see children... drunk or not... and NOT throw beads like a moron?

Pretty sure people are only throwing beads during Mardi Gras..!

You don't have to stay home, just leave the children at home. Then that way, you don't have to complain when they get hit with beads.

Where did i say that only guys should attend parades? I though the discussion was about bringing or not bringing children to the parade?

Majority of float riders are heavily intoxicated, and are paying money to have a good time. Pretty sure they are not worried who they are throwing to (unless they see someone they know). They are just throwing beads because that's what they "paid" money to do. You (the spectator) on the other hand chose to be there,so don't bitch about whats going on. If you don't like it, leave the kids at home, or better yet, you stay home.

You do realize that parades are, for the most part, for kids....right?

This is far from the truth, but I do agree that some parades are "kid" friendly..!

The whole "leave your children at home" comment refers to the parents that complain when their child gets his with beads.

We have people that park in front of my shop every year and the last two years young children have been hit so hard that they were knocked out.

re: Parade goers in Houma complain about getting hit with beads

The PARADES are for the children, the drinking and French Quarter/After Parties are for the adults. To say you shouldn't take children to the Quarter makes sense, to say children shouldn't be at parades is stupid. The comments make me think you are one of the adults who fight their way up to the barricade and then stand on a step ladder to get even higher over the kids. And then actually takes every thing you catch back to the house.

I am not going to whine too much about them throwing hard but I did see a child take a bag of beads in the face at Spanish Town and my buddy got a full-on split lip at Bacchus. The station manager at WWL even did a Commentary on this Sunday. He said: "Hey float riders, you do realize you aren't Drew Brees, right?" I don't care what someone pays to ride a float, they have a responsibility to not engage in dangerous behavior that endangers the public. Would you argue it is OK for him to toss running chainsaws into the crowd? I remember as a kid when they threw cocunuts at Zulu and I have even seen full cans of beer thrown into the crowd from floats. You don't see that anymore and I am betting you won't see full bags of beads being thrown full force if this keeps up.

They should really know which parade they are going to beforehand. If it's one of the male parades, yes they will be throwing hard, so they should be very aware of that. If it's a woman's parade, they are more likely to not throw hard

I rode in Hercules this year and I probably hurt a few ppl unintentionally. Sometimes you got to hit the thugs with the old high-low throw

tie a pack of beads to a string, throw up in air, right before they catch it, hum other beads aT head and jerk back first throw! Or throw some super balls straight down as they trying to catch bouncy balls, bombard them !

I rode with a guy who played softball with us......cannon for an arm. Well we were rolling down the route tossing beads to the crowd and some arse clown decides to throw a pack of bead back towards the float. He grabbed a pack of beads wrapped in plastic hit the dude in the jaw and dopped him!

Other than the only thing we got in trouble for was spilling beer on the crowd....... it was an accident though.

I had two girls at work get jacked up pretty good. One has a good bruise on her nose. Surprised she doesn't have a black eye. I've got another that has a busted head. Some guy took a crawfish sack full of beads, picked it up over his head, and threw it down from the second floor of a float right on a 105# girl. She fell down and busted her head open. To top it off someone stole the sack of beads and didn't help her up. My arse would have been waiting at the end for that float. That was ridiculous.

FWIW Houma parades throw more and harder than any other parades.

Especially Hercules. If you try to hold a drink and watch the parade, you will get smoked in the face at least once even if you are paying attention.

I rode in tucks this year and we were told constantly to not throw beads with excessive force. The krewe was very serious about it this year.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear them making it an issue next year. It really seems to be a hot topic around town.

Saw some guy at Endymion on float trying to target a black female cop with bags of beads. And I mean literally target cause he beamed like 5 bags at her head.

I expect that stuff in New Orleans. Out here they need to chill out or save that for the east side. For some people out here it looks like they just went through hell week.
