I sort of agree, if you've ever been to Houma mardi gras and actually know a lot of the riders personally, it can get pretty dangerous I almost had my head taken off by a few 2 lbs bags and a 5 lbs bag yesterday.

Don't take your eye off the floats and keep at least one hand free. Unless your reflexes suck, you shouldn't have too much of a problem not getting hit if you at least pay attention.

For the most part it's people throwing at people they know. Not saying it's right, but that's what I see. I don't know anyone who is out to hurt random people.

There are a few I'm sure...Houma has their fair share of a-holes who when intoxicated have no qualms hurling beads little harder especially once they get in the That Stanley area. But it is normally them throwing at people they know, especially the younger people. A lot of my friends are starting to join up in Houma parades, so Houma mardi gras is gradually becoming more and more dangerous for me It is what it is, I think they should curtail it a bit, but I doubt they do. Too many rich folks throwing money at those krewes for them to be told what to do and how to do it.

You know friends are trying to hurt you when they knock off your rearview mirror with a 7" nerf football . I'm sure there are a-holes, and those people need to be removed from the float. You're quite a tool if you get your jollies throwing trinkets at people on the side of the road. But then again, their are so many douches in this world, especially in towns like Houma.

I am sure a lot of it is because of the a holes that insist on running right up to and basically hanging off the side of the floats as they are going down the road trying to rip the throwers arm off just to get dem some of dem free plaztik beadz

They should have some sort of idea what kind of parade they are going to. If its one of the men's parades, they yea I would guess they throw hard. If its the old lady parade, my guess is that they hand out beads. Pussys

I've seen a-holes throw overhand at my kids from 10 feet away. I've blocked most of those from hitting my kids, but that shite is not needed. And there's always a few who throw backwards into the crowd once the float has passed.

This article is BS. My cousin who us a minor got sent to the hospital last weekend at a houma parade due to being.hit.with beads. The guy on the float intentionally threw hard cause a group of people were taunting him to throw harder. We were told by LE charges WERE filed against him. Knowing the money and power this certain krewe has, chances are they didnt.

Here a little logic for you. If you see small children, act like a grown up.

Funny thing is I have heard people complaining about this all year. Guess what happens when a bunch of guys start drinking very early and hanging out with strippers.

I was amazed at the folks who were sitting on their porches and not even paying attention. Several times one guy or girl on the porch would wave at me to throw him something so I had to fire the bag of beads at him to make the porch. He or she was the only one paying attention. Most of the times I landed it right on them but a few I missed and would hit someone or knock a drink over. Total accident but the group should have been paying attention.

FWIW Houma parades throw more and harder than any other parades.
Not sure about more, but definitely harder. My wife is from Houma, and I've been going down there for parades for probably the last 10 years. It seems like the throwing gets harder every year. One thing I notice in Houma which is different than most other parades i've gone to is that the people in Houma leave the beads in the plastic bags. This makes them much easier to aim and throw, but also makes them more "dangerous". We took our 9-month old to 2 parades in Houma this weekend. She never got hit, but my wife did walk away from the route a few times with the baby when it was obvious the throwing from a particular float was harder than others. The worst I saw was when someone on the float obviously knew one of the spectators close to us. He began to grab bag after bag and throw as hard as he could. The guy he was throwing at was no more than 15 feet from the float. The rider was a pretty horrible aim. Luckily it didn't appear that many people got hit by those beads, but it could be dangerous even IF you're paying attention. Why not just make them take the beads out of the plastic bags? That would help to reduce the velocity and force of beads going at people. Typically, if you're paying attention, you can easily avoid injuries or getting hit unexpectedly. But there ARE some situations where paying attention just doesn't matter.
