STEP 2: Peers are confused because he wasn't even the best player at his position but take his word for it.
STEP 3: Lies continue to get bigger with the news that Hart has scholarship offers from Oregon, Cal, and UCLA.
STEP 4: Story becomes big news (in the area) because no player from the high school has ever signed with a D-1 team before.
STEP 5: After outed that it was a hoax, Hart initially says he was duped.
STEP 6: Hart comes clean that this was all his idea.

TE'O
STEP 1: Tells peers he has a girlfriend.
STEP 2: Peers are confused because they have never seen the girl or Te'o leave his dorm.
STEP 3: Lies get bigger with news that Te'o's chick dies of leukemia.
STEP 4: Story becomes big news (in the sports world) because Te'o plays a game the supposed day of Kekau's funeral.
STEP 5: After outed that it was a hoax, Te'o says he was duped.
