Well this is a deadend way of asking this question.
(FTR I work in the oil field)
Oil companies want to get all of the oil and gas for profit, but also are researching ways of making money in the future because they know oil and gas will not last forever. For example, my company recently purchased a water services company in order to ensure they have a share in that market when it comes about.
