You only need ONE true defensive mid. You only need ONE deep lying playmaker. You need TWO proper wide players or at least one. If anyone watches GAM at Seattle, his grown arse is in the box feasting on crosses from Fredy Montero, Mario Martinez, Mauro Rosales etc. He's is a center forward. He should play there, if he's going to be a forward.

I agree. We really don't have an identity. IMO. I'd like to get some continuity. I think Jurgen has had enough time to play around with rosters and experimental rosters. Now it's time to solidify our identity.

It's honestly like he really doesn't know or is trying too hard to pull off some super-tactical savant shite.

It's fricking moronic. This is why he got fired at Munich and why nobody really cared when he left the German national team. I said before, his assistant Martin Vasquez is no Jogi Löw. The man is just an average MLS assistant coach who happens to be buddy buddy with Klinsmann.

I missed the match as well due to practice, but I looked up player grades if you want.

ESPN Player Grades

I know most of the board was itching for the Gonzalez-Cameron pairing in the back, and while it is probably going to happen in 2014, why the frick was it introduced today? On the road in Honduras in a qualifier in the Hex. Save that shite for a friendly or a home match against an Antigua type team.

Also, if Boca is not going to play much, then we need someone like Bradley to step up as the next captain. He is fiery and probably our best player on the pitch.

The US needs to bring a lawnmower to each of these road hex games.

One good thing from this match: no cards.

Bradley played like shite. Don't know what the hell ESPN saw. Our MF played much better in the 2nd and he was giving away passes and sending corners out of play. Thought Honduras kicked our asses for the last 15 min of the first, we just looked like we wanted halftime to come. I'm not a JJ fan but he was far more creative in the 2nd half and his corners actually went into the box.

and two more players cap tied... even though their performances weren't the best. Makes you wonder if the Germaricans have ever experienced anything like this. The really long flights, short turn over and the way these CONCACAF teams play.

Klinsmann's tactics are stupid more often than not. I'm more tactically astute than he is, I'm 100% sure of it.

This from Tim Howard

Huge backhanded indictment against Klinsmann.

You are welcome?

I am sure a decent amount of us are in general agreement in most of these things.

I had to watch on a stream in the middle of a class, but I thought I was watching Bob ball today. It' like having no difference in the tactics, supplemented with crazy callups/experiments. I don't know what possession ended up being, but it was probably pretty close to 40-60. Lack of width was another key concern.

I will say that bike goal from Garcia was pretty nasty. Not sure how much to blame on the backline there, pretty unfortunate.

I will admit I was excited about Omar starting but it turned out unfortunate as we all saw. I'm ready to put this game behind us and look forward to a home match and hopefully W against Costa Rica.. big chance to redeem ourselves there and also a few days later at Azteca. I know we have good football players, and I know we can play good football because we've seen it all in flashes, just got to put it together, this game was a wake up call. I look for us to come out with the sense of urgency that we did for that Guatamala home game a few months ago.

I thought Gonzalez played better than Cameron. Neither were particularly good though. The biggest problem is that Jurgen continues to frick up the midfield.

Agreed.
Jones and D Williams should never play anywhere other than DM. Bradley can play DM or CM. I really hope Klinsmann is relying on Brek Shea to be our wide left winger come Brazil.
We have a ton of talent still not on the pitch: Donovan, Shea, Stubear...

You can blame OG for inexplicably stopping his pursuit on the initial corner that went over his head to the far post. FJ then had to run and try to cover with a jump to try and block the cross from going back into the box before it went off the Honduran CB's chest and then onto Garcia's foot for the bicycle kick. props to GC for almost getting his head to it but a CB should never just stop pursuing a free attacker and turn around just because the ball is out of his "zone". That was lazy, shitty defending on OG's part and began the sequence that led to that highlight reel goal.

re: So who deserves more blame: Klinsmann or the players?

I thought Gonzalez and Chandler were by far our worst players.

At the end of the day, I just don't think we are that good. It's a combination of a lot of things. Poor coaching and terrible tactics for starters. We have good enough talent, but we lack key technical qualities that other teams have. Our players are largely below average on the ball, and our defenders shite the bed when the ball is at their feet. The creativity is slim, and we don't have a single good wide player in our rotation. The potential is there, but I haven't observed much development over the past year or so. There is absolutely no reason for us to have 43% possession against fricking Honduras.

When I watch the USMNT, I just feel like I'm watching a single match on repeat. A couple moments of brilliance, terrible losses of possession, laziness on the ball and a complete lack of heart towards the end. Seriously, did we touch the ball the last 5-10 minutes outside of that late FK and then subsequent CK?

I'm typically not a positive sports fan, especially in regards to my beloved GT football, but with USA soccer I find myself positive that we'll get the ship righted, I just think there's too much talent and desire for us to utterly fail.. we're still 1.5 yrs away from WC '14, Rome wasn't built in a day. We've seen JK take steps forward and steps back as a manger, and that's okay as long as we are still ultimately making progress forward, and we will see how we respond vs costa rica and the mexicants to judge further.

Didn't see the match.

I had a feeling the U.S. would not do well at all after reading that SI article on San Pedro. Throw in the fact that most of the U.S. team was playing in Europe Saturday/Sunday. 10+ hour flights with not much time to rest. Going from the lap of European luxury, to a third world shite hole. Going from European match temperatures hovering at freezing or below to 90 degrees and 90% humidity.

This was a recipe for disaster.

Would not surprise me at all if the U.S. had to fight tooth and nail to finish 3rd in the Hex. Also would not surprise me if the U.S. did not make the WC.
