With that logic, xbox live has been operating under a similar principle for it's entire existence.

this has nothing to do with all content being inaccessible when disconnected from the internet.

Comparing Steam to Xbox Live is ignorant IMO.

It's a different group of people all together. Someone on PC is most likely going to have high speed. There are tons of more casual players on Xbox that might not have access to high speed net. I know several people like this actually.

China's fascination with android amazes me. that demographic heavily shifted these %s and #s. Kind of odd how hard android dominates iOS over there.

Android should dominate everywhere! Shits the bees knees

I assume you're playing your Steam games in "offline" mode then? In order to select offline mode, you gotta first be online and logged into the Steam client. This is a requirement. You can't simply disable the internet and then play your Steam games. Steam will fail to launch. If Steam fails to launch, you're outta luck. My point still stands.

Wah? I can play the Sega Genesis Classics pack without an internet connection.

The principal difference between Steam's distribution paradigm and the purported distribution modality of the upcoming consoles is that with Steam, your games are tied to your account, not to a specific unit.

I can install and log in to Steam on multiple computers and access my library of games. If the next Xbox mirrors this functionality, then fine. The game, irrespective of whether it was a download or a Blu Ray, should be tied to the user's account, and thus accessible on any console in which the user logs in.

So many people that play Xbox still don't have high speed at home.

Don't I know it. I live out in the country, and while I can get 'high speed' (well if you call shitty 2.5 Mbps DSL, high speed) earlier this year there was a problem with the lines and I went 3 months with only my phones spotty 3G.

If this turns out to be true I will refuse to buy a 720 and either go PS4 or become a part of the master race.

eta: And I say that as someone who just bought my first playstation ever, a ps3 yesterday, and have had both an XBOX and 360 since they came out.

Yep. The cable access stops 2 miles down the road from my house. And while I can get the DSL, it is the lowest tier. It's horrible.

I wasn't calling you ignorant. Just saying the comparison is ignorant. Also, being ignorant about something is not the same as being stupid. Everyone is ignorant about different things.

re: EDGE: The next Xbox: Always online, no second-hand games, 50GB Blu-ray

This

quote:

rosoft’s next console will require an Internet connection in order to function, ruling out a second-hand game market for the platform

Plus this
quote:

games will still be made available to purchase in physical form. Next Xbox games will be manufactured on 50GB-capacity Blu-ray discs

Does not compute.

Add this to the mix,

quote:

It is believed that games purchased on disc will ship with activation codes, and will have no value beyond the initial user.

And the new Xbox won't end or be perceived well IMO. God I hope the author of the article is trolling and trolling hard.

Steam is just a content delivery service for most games. The games are downloaded to the hard drive of your computer. You can play them without opening steam or being connected to the internet
