I have to say, its amusing how many people are here vociferously lobbying for the government to give more...especially to the "underprivileged".

Oh and BMI is for non-active lifestyle adults. Read up on it.

Dude, I'm pretty well read up on it. We get weighed twice a year. I've been taped at least a few times and know that the calculations are bull shite. But that doesn't change the fact that the youth in this country are, by and large, on track to have far more weight related complications than even guys our age (heart disease, hypertension, diebetes, etc). The costs are going to be fricking enormous. You can disregard BMI and still see the problem.

by her own metric, which is improperly applied to young adults/adolescents, she is overweight. maybe she she get herself into the target range before commenting on children.

An overweight teenager is going to turn into one fat fricking adult without serious lifestyle changes. I could barely keep my weight above 165 in HS and have to bust my arse to stay at 190-195 at 30 (same 6' since the 11th grade).

The point is if you are going to have the program for those who are needy...then have it, and do it right.

I dont oppose help for children in bad situations. Do you?

Looks like he was suspended for 10 days. Could also have to do with the "Big fat gorilla" comment on the tape and the fact that this was done during class, not some football practice.

So your opinion on this matter becomes irrelevant because you obviously have no idea what some of these kids go through or, at the very most, don't really care. I'm not that far removed from high school and I had friends whose best meal of the day would be a school lunch. They didn't have enough money for anything else until they got old enough to get a part time job. Even then...it was a struggle. But they never complained even though they had every right to because their lack of food was mostly due to the laziness of their parents.

Where'd you go to school. I went to public school, and I don't remember anyone looking or acting hungry. And BRMHS had some "neighborhood" kids.

I guess canned green beans are better than nothing at all and probably better than what most of the kids these days eat for breakfast and dinner at home, but seriously, school lunches are anything but what i would call nutritious.

So then you disagree with these school lunches, because they are based off a MEAN BMI.

i do see the problem. The problem is more from a cultural change brought on by the USDA and governmental groups pushing that bull shite food pyramid, and farm subsidies (particularly corn) more than anything else.
I'm actually working on a paper for stats now called "the whole grain lie"

I work hard everyday to put on weight. I'm at 232 as of yesterday and hoping for 240 by April.

According to fedgov I am overweight/obese. I can move a small car and run 8 minute miles for a 10k. Does this seems like it makes sense?

let's not forget the push by fedgov under Obamacare to use BMI as the standard of "wellness"

Hell, when I was in school I remember getting flat cheese pizza rectangles and fries twice a week. But I was also fed at home, so what do I know...

For those that bring their lunch the schools reserve the right to search and confiscate certain foods and beverages that do not comply with the nutritional standards set by the program.

Ooooohhh...only the opinions of the "caring" matter or have relevance.

I see.

Sorry. I do not worry that these 200 lb dudes are gonna starve because of school lunch issues. I don't accept it.

And, let's be clear. I come from a real poverty area. That lunch is the least of my concerns. I know from which I speak and am unmoved by THIS issue.

The schools pretty much have to base the lunch amounts on some "averages". The idea that these kids are on a 'starvation' plan at lunch is silliness.

re: Football coach suspended for calling first lady a fat ass.

Did anybody read the article?
quote:

In modern times, black women’s figures continue to be up for public discussion in ways that are celebratory
quote:

Women’s health magazines have created workouts to help other women get “Michelle Obama arms.”
quote:

“Michelle is black from a distance. She’s a real black girl
quote:

The first lady’s critics “are reacting to the culture in which they’ve grown up or they are using it as a code to racialize Michelle Obama and remind people that she’s black

This article is so full contradictions. The author praises Obama about her bangs and arms but..... don't criticize her butt. The media has fallen over themselves to highlight her positives but don't talk about her negatives.

Secondly, she promotes Obama's blackness. I thought we were supposed to judge, not on the color of the skin but rather the content of her character. The author uses race when it suits her but calls it racism when it doesn't.
