Think I am going to pull the trigger and satisfy my malaise.

I've always talked about "retiring" to Haines, AK and living on Chilkat Lake. Flying up Sat. morning to look at a couple of cabins. It's a start.

How did you end up in Alaska anyway? Are you from there? I'm jealous, beautiful country up there.

Not sure, the Mrs has to see how fare we have to snowmachine or hike to get to the cabin... It's a bit off the road system.

There is also a lot on Chilkoot lake we are gonna look at. She wanted a weekend away, and I thought we would kill two birds with one stone.

Alaska is definitely on my bucket list to visit.

How do you handle the darkness during winter? I think it might break me if I lived there.

Yeah, it's not nearly as hard as people think it will be. Just have to accept some uncertainty for a month or two til you get settled. Jobs are easy to find here, and I think living is much much easier here than where I am from in La.

It isn't bad. Shortest day here is about 5.5 hours of sun. I dont' see it directly at my house because of the mountains behind me blocking the rays but can from work.

Only places that lose sun totally for days to months are above the arctic circle.

Going to look at this one in Haines as well

That whole area from Chilkat Lake down to the ocean really impressed us when we were up there. From the seals at the mouth of the river to the salmon making their run to the two brown bear families running off the fishermen to the eagles flying overhead. Just a great place. I'm envious.

I've always thought I would end up on Chilkoot Lake. I've rarely thought about Chilkat or Mosquito lake. This one is worth looking at, and is at a really great price for the loation (IMO)

Will know more next weekend. I'm pretty excited, the mrs has reservations. Will see who wins...

I always enjoy your posts and you giving us a peek into life up north. After watching that halftime show, I wanna pack my family and move to the woods.

Can always add on to it. I have always wanted a yurt anyway. Spenard Builders supply has cabin packages as well.

Yep, few miles down the road.

Salmon, halibut launching out of Haines which would be about 10 miles down the road.

Ah, I've confused those before. Good luck, I hope you convince the wife.
