and French colonial is?

y'all have weird definitions of what culture is.

If that is what you want to call it......French colonial.... then yes, it is very relatable and widely embraced by all people that visit. Not debatable

Good food, horrible streets, many dilapidated houses, crimes, getting drunk, music. Lived there for a few years and it was fun, but not meant for long term living for me. Good weekend location.

And yes, a lot of America is tired of the Nola storyline, and the we are so awesome attitude, be a little more humble.

It's no better than any of America's great cities, it's one of 6 or so great places, not by itself.

Miami is different because of the Cuban and Carribean cultures.

San Antonio isn't different from other cities with high Mexican populations as far as culture goes.

I've been to Pancho's in both San Antonio and Houston. They are he same in both cities.

i always ask for distinct definitions to have a more structured discussion

for example, building a bunch of hotels near the superdome has nothing to do with culture in my eyes, but it does in your eyes

re: Is there a city that gets more love than New Orleans?

and there isn't one "hispanic" culture. miami is different than houston is different than san antonio is different than san diego is different than los angeles

Im not saying they are the same, I am saying as a caucasian it is hard to embrace any type of hispanic culture. Am I lumping them in as all the same? no? Am i lumping them together regarding that fact that they are all hard to relate to as a white guy, yes.

quote:

i thought this was the entire point of the "uniqueness" of nola culture?

and it's really easy to celebrate the culture of nola when you just dismiss every other possible culture

Im not dismissing any culture. I am just saying NOLA's culture is better, and easier to embrace as an outsider.

quote:

you claim i'm ignorant and need to get out more but you have no problem lumping these cities into one ball

Ive been to all of them, again, not lumping them together. Miami is a place i could see myself living. I loved Miami. but it has it barriers.

san antonio and san diego are a lot more mexican than los angeles...but san diego and san antonio aren't really similar

it's not just "mexican" culture...it's how those cultures developed around the gringos. that difference leads to divergent new cultures. san diego, for instance, has a lot more of a coastal culture than san antonio (for obvious reasons)

I think a lot of cities have a culture just some like San Antonio's aren't really appealing to anyone

but isn't that why nola is such an attraction? giving you something different

i'd hardly call the carribean/voodoo culture as something more white guys can relate to, but it's all over nola

to be fair all of the cities being discussed, including nola, have their own barriers

san antonio is emerging as a big deal

the hispanic population of the country is exploding. as that rises, cities like san antonio will gain an even bigger role in the development of 'Murka going forward

no it doesn't. Not sure where you would get that idea.

Look up culture in the dictionary, slow. There is a wide umbrella of what culture is.

hotels near the super dome has nothing to do with culture.

to back to a previous discussion

you said:

quote:

and its hands down the best city in the nation to hold a big event like the SB. Most people in the know will agree

i said:

quote:

i don't think anybody is disagreeing with that. it has nothing to do with culture and everything to do with an amazing setup around the dome. nola is built to handle big events like this

you said:

quote:

well you must define culture differently.

Not many. And that pisses off quite a few haters. Just look at this thread.

yes. its different but relatable.

not everyone loves NOLA, but most people do.

quote:

looking at the big picture, carribean/voodoo is insignificant to New Orleans right now, in 2013.

whether a white guy can relate or not, who cares. those cultures really arent even on the radar.

If you can even call Voodoo a culture. Maybe you cant relate to it, but it certainly intrigues most people.
