It merely served as an organization that promoted ritual and brotherhood among men with common interests and socioeconomic backgrounds. It formed a sense of community in rural areas where cow-tipping and sodomy served as pastimes.

I think it's funny how people think the confederate flag is a symbol of racism because the klan used it. The thing that those same people don't realize is that the klan used the american flag when the confederate flag was banned. If the confederate flag offends you then you need a history lesson.

Confederate flag is not a symbol of racism, but the klan used it as such for a long enough time to make it synonymous with bigotry

My grand mother told me the same thing. She said back in the 30's in her town that if a white man was drinking and such and not taking care of his family, that the Klan would step in and straighten him out just like they would a black man.
