Which is worse for kids to be exposed to: nudity/sex or violence?

Your principles suck since they didn't prevent you from economically rewarding people who violate your supposed principles. If you can't live by your claimed principles, then you really don't have principles.

glad to know you're a thief

and that your principles of enjoying stealing shite trump the property rights of those who produced the movie

And the scenes or picture in question isn't even Total Recall.

It is children getting slaughters/killed in a movie, versus (now) war veterans/ soldiers getting killed/slaughtered in a movie

This is a huge problem in our culture. Most parents will let fairly young kids see R rated movies because "it's only R because of violence". These same parents won't let their kids watch a moderately raunchy pg-13 movie because of dialogue about sex and profanity. Also the sight of breasts is pretty much an automatic R rating. You have to show gruesome violence to get an R rating just because of violence. The human body/sex is a natural part of life and violence is not. How does that make sense?

+1 i've read all three pages and still haven't seen a cohesive point.

I hope to God this isn't a weekly thread if this one is any sort of indicator.

My weekly 'Principles trump Rights any day' thread

You deserve to have everything taken away, raped, crushed, devastated on "principle", because that trumps your "rights". What "principle"? The tyrant's principles.

quote:

I just got thru watching the remake of Total Recall, which I knew was wasted time. I wasn't surprised to see good guys blowing away bad guys, with one or two good guys going down every now and then.

What surprised me was how random people, whether it was in a workplace, shopping center, or street, were just being blown away.

One scene showed the good guys on an elevator crowded with people. When the doors opened, a hale of gunfire mowed everyone down (like 15 to 20?), except, of course, the good guys who ducked.

You understand that was a movie, right? I somewhat enjoyed the first Total Recall, but not a film I would return to over and over.

quote:

I remember westerns when only a few guys deserving of it got killed.

By all means, watch those films. High Noon, The Searchers, heck, Shane - those are some of the finest films ever made.

quote:

So what's next? When the opening scene of a movie shows a gunman lining up kindergartners, shooting them all execution style, or someone walking onto a school bus and all u see is an outside shot, but by the blood splatter on the windows, you know it's carnage on the inside, will you be ok with that, for the sake of freedom of speech? Would this scenario make u walk out of this movie?

I refuse to watch Avatar, because I'm tired of US military personnel being made out to be the bad guy - all the time. And there will be at least 2 or 3 sequels. I don't watch the film out of principle, but I don't want to stop people from making them.

You see, Ethan, you can decline to arm yourself, out of principle, but allow others the right to do so, and those things do not have to come into conflict. I can choose to, say, never watch a JJ Abrams film ever again, WITHOUT stopping him from making movies. What am I missing here?

My point was for mainly those that answered the original question.

You said 'sure I'd watch a movie where kids get slaughtered in a classroom or on a school bus. My principles are good for that.'

What about the second scenario involving a movie torturing/killing vets/soldiers? Are you good with that too?

So one of your principles is to deny others the fruits of their labors. Your principles are definitely more important to you than other peoples' rights to their property. At least you are being true to the premise in the thread subject. Somehow I doubt you apply the same principle to your property though. That just means in addition to being a piece of crap human without respect for the rights of others you're a hypocritical piece of crap human. Just like the rest of us.

My principles tell me that Michael Moore produces shite that aids in the brainwashing of young minds, but my reaction is not to support his crap by watching it. I really don't care if you do, or that he makes millions doing it.

The mind-blowing thing is that, once-upon-a-time, Michael Moore was pretty freakin' entertaining, TV Nation, particularly. Bowling for Combine, is fairly well done, although it is pure HCI propoganda. The rest of his work is drivel or worse.

Ok. But just give an answer to the second scenario. You did to the first one just fine.

And since it is not real life, what's the problem?
Would you watch a movie where veterans/soldiers get slaughtered/beheaded/tortured by jihadists?
