if you're using the term "principles" when discussing the MPAA, then wow bro...wow

i don't think you have seen many movies

PG-13 today, is not the same as PG-13 of say, 30 years ago.
you're right. they could show nudity and say "frick" in a PG13 movie in the 80s (sixteen candles) and they couldn't do it today

Good point. But it is reversed. The PG and PG-13 of 30 years ago were not as strict as they are today. PG could allow curse words like shit, ass, damn, etc. PG-13 would allow glimpses of nudity. Not much, but more than is allowed today. Also harsher language and more violence. I think more R rated films will become tamer over time unless the MPAA is completely over hauled. More films will just choose to go it un-rated.

LET ME CHANGE MY ANSWER sixteen candles came out before the pg-13 rating. so it drops a "frick" and has nudity...in a PG

Also, Jaws was a PG movie and it showed a kid getting eaten alive in an explosion of blood and carnage. People didn't seem to mind that. ETA: Gremlins is PG and it is full of "inappropriate" material, including the cops drinking and driving and the Sheriff saying, "Cause I'm Sheriff a-hole."

yeah the anti-hero western genre started in the 70s. 40-ish years ago how many innocent people died in the Wild Bunch's Final Scene

You guys are both wrong. The movie I just referenced Total Recall remake, has 'frick', and nudity in it, (3 tits to boot, and yes it looks real) in the first 20 mins.

i haven't seen it. my principles won't let me. did you watch an unrated version by chance? just curious and in pg13 movies, the rule is typically that you can't show people actually get killed (unless it's an isolated event for dramatic purposes). pg13 movies are the king of showing guys shooting and falling, but no real bullet holes or blood splatter

You guys are both wrong.
i admitted i was wrong when i originally said sixteen candles got a pg13...because it got a pg...almost 30 years ago so these declining standards you refer to don't really exist

I feel like you are missing the point. What's the difference between batman of yesteryear and the 'Dark Knight rises' in which a stadium full of people watching a football game exploded, and cops were being blown up every 20 mins? What about the movie 'Patton' and 'Saving Private Ryan?' You really don't think there is a correlation to the amount of violence we can stomach? (Thanks for continually drawing me off target btw)

in the original batman joker spiked shite with drugs that made people get a joker face and die star wars shows an entire planet explode

so movies are being criticized for being realistic? the whole point of the Omaha beach scene in SPR was to show the horrors of war in a realistic manner. what about the gang rape in casualties of war? isn't there a rape scene in platoon?
quote:
You really don't think there is a correlation to the amount of violence we can stomach?
did you just avoid all the super violent movies of the 70s and 80s? did you skip the link earlier to the final scene of the wild bunch? like 50 people at a min got fricking killed in that scene

Are you comparing a war scene to a scene possibly depicting children getting slaughtered on a school bus? Didn't watch the clip, but was that it?

you brought up potential scenes that have nothing to do with children i don't even get your point. can you summarize it in a non-runon sentence for me?

Anyway, this was my second scenario: Lets say, Oliver Stone brings to the big screen a movie called 'American Jihad'. It is basically about a small Al Qaeda group (5 people) that go around killing retired war veterans or current service men. It's pretty gruesome involving slow beheadings as u hear gurgling/choking sounds. Some are forced to renounce the country under a false pretense they will be let free. And the bad guys never really get caught. Think Hostel/ the Saw movies and a combination of the fugitive (as they are constantly being cased. Would this movie be ok for you to watch (I am going strictly for those who said 'yes' to the earlier scenario) or would your principles not allow you to indulge another's rights? Does this go too far for you?

i'm not much into torture porn, and this movie would be a colossal failure (as stone is used to recently) again, what is your point?
