A belief that if you give them a nice environment they behave better? Economic/social justice? Why are their medical and other services as good as those that pay? More money for contractors and the bureaucracy?

ive heard the first two argued extensively by misguided bleeding hearts. i think we all know the 3rd is the correct answer.

I think it is all three, you need a combination of the idealistic progressive, the radical elements for social change and the corrupt to get something like this accomplished.

Doesn't look like too much... some basic appliances. Can't really tell what the floor and counter tops are made of. They make some nice look alike materials nowadays.

I am philosophically opposed to the concept of public housing. But, if it must exist, I'd go with this as top end...

They were - in the 40s-60s. Once they integrated them, the maintenance budgets were SLASHED. No more inspections, no more maintainence. Much like the public schools. You obviously don't know what you're talking about.

Wow. How about this, if you have infrastructure, maintain it. I guess you think road maintenance is just "throwing money at the problem"? The public housing in New Orleans, for the white people at least, was just fine. It was well maintained and well funded. As soon as they integrated, maintenance budgets were slashed. Do you not invest any money in the maintenance of your home? If the state owns housing, is it better to just let it crumble in ruin? In my high school in the 80s, you could tell there had been no investment in the physical plant or equipment since the 50s-60s. Is just maintaing your assests just "throwing money" at them? You've just got an agenda that you can't see around.

That is total BS. You obviously don't know what you are talking about.

slashed or simply not increased enough to meet the new requirements? at some point you cant just keep spending money on it. and if they live their for free or nearly free, why cant they maintain it themselves? are they absolved of ALL personal responsibility?

Basically cut back to the level that black housing projects were at - just like the public schools after integration.

I don't let my tenants maintain my property for me, I take that responsibility on myself. I notice a lot of people want to jump in on this topic often but don't really have any memory of, or know anyone who lived in projects in the 50s and 60s. Basically they approach it through emotion.

I think for each member of the family they should get 1,000 extra square feet. If you have 5+ in the family then you should be entitled to a private pool. 8+ gets you a guest house.

what a laughable response. your tenants are actually paying you though - thats the difference. we are paying for the house AND the maintenance. its not unreasonable to expect the tenant to pay for one of them.

What level is that? You have a link? I had a contractor client who did HANO work continually, it was very, very lucrative for him. The Federal government was funding public housing not the evil white Southener. It was largely administered by Black Officials since 1968. He was paid well above scale tor HANO work compared to other projects. There is no reason to believe your claims. You are totally full of crap. The dysfunctioanls tear the shite out of those places. I also represented many land lords that took section 8, the stories of Negro lifestyles and respect for the property of others are shocking.

What gets overlooked is the fat juicy building contracts that goes to construction companies for this. Sort of like the biggest supporters of EBT is 7/11 types.

Public Housing should be about as presentable as an MRE. While I do like certain MRE's they are not very pleasing to the eye.

Exactly, to suggest the federal government is ****rdly with construction and maintenance funds is absurd.

I don't want my tenants working on, or hiring low-bid illegal immigrants to work on my properties. If you think that's laughable, I'd hate to see what shape your assests are in.
